Can anyone recommend what recordings a first time John Coltrane listener should check out? Thanks in advance! "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

My recommendation for a starter has to be "My Favorite Things".
It was my first Coltrane album, still a classic in my book. Other favs not mentioned above are: "Soultrane", "Coltrane's Sound" and "Ballads". [Edited 12/19/09 18:44pm]

For strictly beginners I'd say "Live a the Village Vanguard Again!", "Stellar Regions" or the "Live in Japan" box. Personally . I think we are all Boring with No Lives cause all we do is talk about Prince,Criticize and Gossip. I need a Horny Man is what I Need and probably so do most of yas. We are Sexually Frustrated what we R... Amen..!!! - zelaire

Coltrane and Johnny Hartman Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

Depending on what type of Jazz fan you are, I would also recommend:
You might also consider some compilations to introduce yourself to him. I recommend this more mellow compilation, again depending on what style you like: perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...
