But personality wise, I've seen her in Oprah with Chris Rock talking about Good Hair and the girl is a breath of fresh air esp in comparision with her passive, humanized mannequin, 1950s housewife throwback sister of hers. I know, right. Plus at least solange writes her own music. Her last album was really good.

She has beauty, stage presence and a powerful voice (which she needs to learn to pull back on from time to time). And she can dance and sing at the same time, imagine that! My main complaint about Beyonce would probably be that she needs to take a break from being a singer (we know you got the chops) and learn to become a vocalist. Less belting (it's not as impressive when done every other verse) and more nuance.
I absolutely loved Solange's last album. I think it showed tremendous promise. The songs were funky and soulful (right up my alley), but I'd have to see her repeat this success a few more times before I could put her in front of her sister in a race like this. My personal taste probably leans more to the Solange side, but Beyonce will probably always be the superstar of that family. True and fair enough . I liked Solange's last album as well. It was a pleasant departure from what we normally see from the Knowles Machine...more retro (formally known as neo) soul, which is my personal preference.

As if someone 23 has THAT much to talk about. Yes, she was married 3 years, had a baby, divorced, then expressed regret at having that child at such a young age. Get in line, it ain't a new or unique story. But mark this down (and I could be wrong - time will tell), she'll get all naked and person on her next album to even further herself from her all-too-hyped sister. [Edited 12/21/09 12:43pm] You called it. I see that as Solange's future. I liked every song on Solange's second album (never heard the first). However her press campaign to support the album was a nightmare. She really sees herself as some avant garde artiste and that self-denial is always evident in interviews. They both need a voice coach. Beyonce has to return to singing & not belting (as someone earlier mentioned). Solange needs to learn to widen or open her voice. It can be very thin. I can't compare the two because they're in different lanes. Kind of like Dionne & Dee Dee Warwick.
