No, I dislike his childhood voice. Now kill me all, you MJ fanatics!

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that feels this way. I have discussed this with other people. I can take about 1 or 2 songs of the J5 (before "Dancing Machine" and I want to pull my hair out. It's not that the music is bad or their performance is bad. I just don't care for children singing.

Yeah. I mean I get it on some songs during the J5's early years. Hell I like his takes of "Who's Loving You" and "A Fool for You" but to me MJ didn't begin to hit his vocal stride until he became a full tenor (around 14, 15, 16 years old) onwards. That's the MJ voice I fell in love with.

We never heard Jermaine sing before his voice changed. Jermaine's voice has always been about the same since he came out.

For instance, you hardly ever see a young female having a hit as a pre-teen. However, there are several males that did. It's all about the temor in their voice.

How old was Jermaine in 1970? I loved his voice in the J5 years. He was still pretty young then. I prefer his voice over MJ's.

16-17. He was already a full tenor by then. His family said Jermaine & Michael were vocally similar as kids so MJ basically learned from Jermaine back then.

No offense, but whoever said Stevie Wonder, Tevin Campbell, or whoever else you can think of over or in comparison to Michael, I'm gonna laugh in your face.

Nobody, Nobody, Nobody, Nobody, Nobody, Nobody, Nobody, Nobody, Nobody, Nobody

can compare to young Michael Jackson. He was in my opinion the greatest child singer ever.

And that is with all do respect to Frankie Lymon. Bring on all the young male and female child singers past and present, they can't stand next to Michael.

All I have to do is watch that audition tape for Motown (especially when he sings Tobacco Road), it's all over for me.

So how was his voice before he hit puberty? It seems like MJ's voice got higher when he hit puberty.

Yes, but most of the ones you mentioned didn't get famous until after their voices changed.

Was Judy Garland a big child star before Oz?

Just the sound of it. Too much treble. I don't like children singers a lot because they have that "something" in their voices I just can't stand. For me, adult MJ was much better singer (but still not the greatest). Just my opinion wink

I co-sign with U on that... Even MJ said Tevin's voice was better than his at that age. MJ had a beautiful voice but it wasn't as soulful as Tevin Campbell's as a child.
Hope Tevin can make a comeback he is missed with these no singing ass people out today... Usher No! Mario no! Trey Songz Hell no!

Tevin is the only other one mentioned so far that I would say was extremely advanced and skilled as a child vocalist like Michael...But that's probably only because he had Mike's voice and catalog to intensely study. lol Just like Ralph Tresvant, young Tevin did his best to emulate little Michael Jackson as a singer.

I should also mention Frankie Lymon. He was the best until Michael came along. And Foster Sylvers was a good one too, although he impersonated MJ on record, LOL.

I'm not a fan of child singers in general...

but I'm going to give an honorable mention to WAYNE NEWTON, and danke schoen.

Even though it's the only damn wayne newton song I've ever heard, and I am not saying the guy had the charisma or personality of the Jackson 5, every time it my mp3 player hits it I love listening to it. He had solid vocal chops as a kid. More than solid.

lol weird choice I know, so kill me.
