What I absolutely hate about this is that he's promoting the myth that men just can't control their sexuality and so shouldn't be expected to. No man can be faithful because he *needs* sex from many many women. please. give me a fucking break.
mad

He's also not talking about these women like theyre people, but conquests and sexual objects.

Gotta wonder if he'd be fine with his daughter dating a man like the one he claims to be... sleeping around on her, and using the "i cant help it, i am a man" defense, and potentially bringing home god knows what kinds of diseases.

Considering KISS is one of the most successful acts in history (and, in the 70s, actually wrote some good tunes), I'd say your point is false.

And obviously it's of interest to people--even to those who are saying "who cares?".

Then Mr. Simmons should show a lil' class and speak about his musical achievements then. Most people have fucked more than one person but most people can't say they've had successful career as a singer, songwriter, or musician . wink

But it's NOT of interest to people. It's not news...not anymore. Not by the 1,523rd time he's mentioned it. He's almost mentioned it more than it's actually happened. Gene has been saying that for ages, and it's probably bullshit to some extent. Let's explore.

The man is 60 years old. He's been with Shannon Tweed exclusively around 20 years, maybe 22. (Their oldest son together is 20 this year). So from whenever in his teens until he was around 38, he slept with 4600 women. Let's say he was sexual at age 18. That's 22 years before Shannon. At 52 weeks a year, that's 1144 weeks. 4600 divided by 1144 weeks, that's 4 women a week. When is he recording music, or touring in between all that? How about when he had relationships w/ Cher and Diana Ross and others?

I think, like others obviously, that it's just a braggadocio on his part. And when did he start counting all these women? He once claimed to have a shoe box of polaroids of all of these chicks, or MOST of them. Uh huh. And monkeys might fly out of my butt before dinner. I think that 4600 is a GENEROUS estimate?

Point being that it's just another rock star bragging about something that probably didn't happen. It's all pomp and circumstance. People say "who cares", because it's ALL he talks about. Over and over. We've heard it before. Must have been a slow news day for whoever wrote that article.

As far as being successful.....they've never had a #1 single (or anywhere close) in the US. Never had #1 album either. Not even Alive!. They're only two #1 moments were in Australia. Gene brags that they're the #1 Gold selling band in history. Whoopie. That means, when not spun like gold, that "we've barely sold 500K units, and but not quite 1,000,000." They've had a few Platinum albums, but if he's bragging about something, let's keep the facts straight. They're more about the SHOW than the music. No one goes around humming "Heaven's On Fire" or "Love Gun". They're catchy in concert, on record they're okay, and after the show....they're forgettable at least.

No doubt they've had an effect on how people put on rock shows, but have they changed the face of music, and how people write or play music? Is Gene some genius on bass? Is Paul Stanley another Clapton? Peter Criss seems 'quiet' on the drums. Tommy Lee would pound him in the ground with one hand (and his dick) tied behind his back. Let's also not forget KISS is another band with the "We're retiring" mantra, then "we're coming out ONE MORE TIME" bait and switch, over and over. Now they're just stumbling along, rerecording old shit and coupling it with new shit to try and sell records. Sonic Boom sold a lot of records at first (a whopping 108,000 in its first week a la Chris Brown and R. Smelly) because of the hype and the Walmart connection so every white trash MFer could get a copy. People are already forgetting about it, despite their ongoing tour.

Gene likes to talk & hype himself, and even in this tiny way of a flaming folder on prince.org, he has succeeded once again!

He is a marketing genius. Most people can't even sing a single song by Kiss, but we all know who they are!

Thanks Ernest. Exactly my point.

KISS's achievements do not live up to the myth and Gene knows that.

I have an insanely large music collection across every genre from country to hip-hop to metal to alt-rock, to funk to jazz and thanks to the Internet I've heard even more music that I don't own - and aside from that "Rock & Roll All Night" song I couldn't name a single KISS song and I'm not sure I know many people that could, either.

Trent:
“I’d never want to be Gene Simmons, an old man who puts on makeup to entertain kids, like a clown going to work,”

and Trent hit the nail on the head. Gene has nothing to brag about musically except shit that happened 25+ years ago. So he talks about bedding some ridiculous inflated amount of women.

But he doesn't realize that nobody cares about that either. You'd seriously have to be a complete idiot to find any sort of interest in that kind of thing. It doesn't make him any more or less interesting as a person or give anything creative he's done any more or less merit.

You can rip on Gene all you want but he's had a pretty good life. Been a huge rock star despite not having that much talent or being handsome. Wealthy, famous, respected (except here). What more could you want?

It's all rather convenient isn't it? Sales of an album start to sag, and we talk about how many dirty bitches we've slept with. Get some hype going to sell some albums, in some weird backward way. Hmmm, sounds like....what's his name? That has been. Oh right! Chris Beat 'Em Down Brown deleting his Twitter. Rihanna posing near naked in GQ. R. Smelly saying he's writing a book, when the MF can't even read "How To Write A Book For Dummies" to save his motherfuckin' life.

And I even question Gene's marketing genius. On his show, we see him doing Gene Simmons' Car Wash. Where is THAT today? Was it a one off deal? How about that ranch be bought into? Didn't he invest in cow semen? It's all his petty shit that generates a little money, but it never lasts. And all that KISS merchandise? I can't imagine why. There's a lot of Prince shit out there too, and some of I'd have loved to have had, but I passed, because there's just a limit as to how much I'm going to pad the pockets of ANY rock star in lieu of having "everything they ever released", when it comes to merchandise. How many fucking figurines of KISS are NEEDED, or do people really WANT? The 3' ones, the 12" ones, the mini ones, the bobble head ones....MFer please! What garbage. It's all going to burn anyway.

I think "huge" is not a question, and neither is "important."

True. They WERE huge, but never that important to the state of rock n' roll. If RNR needed a shot to get a jump start, Gene would use lube.

OK, who actually remembers a KISS song besides "Rock & Roll All Night"? That you actually KNOW the lyrics to?

Anyone know how "Firehouse" sounds? How about "Detroit Rock City"? "Beth"? "Forever"? (That HORRIBLE Michael Bolton song that wouldn't escape my MTV back then smh)

Is "Lick It Up" memorable? How about "Put the X in Sex"?

I don't know what a KISS song sounds like, all I know is they're a live act mainly and they only have style over substance but not much style because who wanna look like a devilish clown at 60? falloff

Ain't Paul and Gene approaching 60 anyways? grandpa

Jesus... I know more Aerosmith and Rolling Stones songs and those bands actually HAVE or HAD substance. KISS never did.

It is gross, and you have to live in some sort of fucking fairy tale land to think that anyone would be impressed by that.

It makes him look pathetic, like women are just meaningless objects and statistics to him.

I do think it's pretty gross, & I think that he's pretty gross, and I don't like Kiss very much.

All I'm getting at is people are dismissing him as if he hasn't had 20 something gold albums and his legacy has been reduced to just being sleazy.

He's been talking about these women for years, but the image of Kiss will last, I believe. Not their music, but their image. He created something of legend, even if it's all hype. You can't take away the impact, because it's already happened.

I think it makes him AND the women who sleep with him look gross. They use each other. They are each conquests to the other.

Still I think he's just honest. People ask him about it and he answers. Somehow I don't think he's the one that keeps bringing the subject up, but he doesn't shy away when asked, and if he's lying, it's because he wants people to talk, like we're doing.

Well, the impact is their influence over 70 styles in rock, and on live shows. They were creating the craziest stage shows of their day--explosions & blood, weird characters. And along with Bowie & Alice cooper they created this mystique of the costumed rock star that someone like Lady Gaga is still using to her benefit.

And his face is the most recognizable of the band, along with his tongue lol It's an iconic image, like Marilyn's dress blowing up or MJ on his toes or Elvis' white jumpsuit.
