Janet got that swagger and that is what kept her around this long! It's a lot of singers that can really sing but fall by the wayside....just look at Fantasia!

Janet has a decent voice...meaning there is nothing spectacular to it. You don't have to have a blowing voice to be a good singer. I do admit if it were not for the Jackson name behind her...she wouldn't have had half the success that she has had.

I would not say Janet is one of the best singers around, but I don't get it either when people say she can't sing. Someone who can't sing to me would be somebody like Cassie or Ciara. Now those heffa's can't sing for s**t lol. They just talk in their songs, but I even think Janet is a better singer than Madonna, who imo has a harsh and monotone voice, only liked her voice in the 80's.

Anyhoo, Janet has a very nice tone. Maybe she's not a powerhouse singer but I do think she she can sing. Songs like "I Get Lonely", "Love Will Never Do Without You" and "Together Again" showcase her vocals very nicely.

She can sing.

You bring up a good point though. I said on here years ago that Prince's regular singing voice does nothing for me and got ripped a new one.

There are quite a few people that others here love that I think can't sing or are not good singers at all, just as I am sure that there are people I think can sing that others won't agree. At the end of the day, it's all subjective. None of it is fact.

is Janet a great singer? no way


is she capable of sounding pleasant in her songs? yes. I don't think a singer should have to have a huge voice to make it big, but at least be able to sing on key. Janet doesn't have much range or volume, but in the range at which she's comfortable, she sounds nice.

There's a big difference between someone like Janet or Madonna, who aren't great singers but can sing and sound nice, and someone like Britney Spears, who just never sounds pleasing to the ear.

I have no problem with Janet or Madonna's voices, limited as they are. They choose to use auto-tune these days, but they don't need like it Britney Spears, who has no business making records
