some might argue that he has competition with stevie wonder for that title but i think michael has him beat "we make our heroes in America only to destroy them"

You must have forgotten about Stevie Wonder, and Smokey Robinson as he started when he was 15. I vote for Stevie, he slightly edges out MJ.

In his genre(s) of music: Yes.
In all genres of music: Well, who knows. I'm sure there are some little classical, gospel, and country-western child singers that were/are just as precocious as Mike was in his styles as a boy. I prefer his adult voice. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

why????? Just the sound of it. Too much treble. I don't like children singers a lot because they have that "something" in their voices I just can't stand. For me, adult MJ was much better singer (but still not the greatest). Just my opinion

Marrk said: Case Closed! [Edited 12/19/09 3:35am] Michael knew how to emote real soul when he was a child, that's why in a way his child singing voice was great, at times better than his adult voice, where you always got the feeling he was trying to suppress or water down his true soulfulness. When he was a child you knew it was a child singing but it didn't sound like he was trying to imitate a grown up sound, which is quite common amongst child singers. He sounded sincere when he sang "Whose Loving You".

man ntohing can beat mike when he was 13-14. soemthin was magical in his voice from 71-72 right before it changed. it got a little raspy. more controlled.more emotive. like he finally learned he didnt have to scream to get his point across.
i dont dig the 69'-70 stuff as much.

sharpens knife Well, it depends on the song. I adore the way Mike sang some of the songs while in others he seemed too "squeaky". My favourites are: This one´s an absolute killer. This is a rare live version. This are so soft and he sounds so effortless. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Marvin Gaye? Jeff Buckley? Freddie Mercury? While I do like some Queen songs, I´ve never really felt their music. Oh, I just remembered my favourite song of theirs. I´m gonna start a new topic about it cause it´s perfect for the holidays. [Edited 12/19/09 10:08am] "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. No, I´ve just searched for Winter´s Tale, cause seeing Freddie´s name here reminded me of it. I truly adore that song. That´s the only one I have on tape somewhere. I do enjoy some of their songs when I hear them, but I couldn´t be bothered listening to them on my own. I'm glad that I'm not the only one that feels this way. I have discussed this with other people. I can take about 1 or 2 songs of the J5 (before "Dancing Machine" and I want to pull my hair out. It's not that the music is bad or their performance is bad. I just don't care for children singing. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

We never heard Jermaine sing before his voice changed. Jermaine's voice has always been about the same since he came out. For instance, you hardly ever see a young female having a hit as a pre-teen. However, there are several males that did. It's all about the temor in their voice. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
