Vid of Lenny Kravitz doing his funk album Negrophilia

Badass. Supposedly he is working on his "funk" album he has been promising since right before 5 days.

Not bad. Better than most of the drivel he's been churning out over the past several albums. I wouldn't be mad at a bit more bottom and thump in that bassline, though.

Yeah agreed but it at least has a 'groove' and not more of that meat n potatoes stuff he has been doing. Things are looking like he finally founs his groove or is going back to it at least.

A poser ? He plays as many instruments as Prince and most at a very high level. He sings in about 5 different voices . He plays funk, rock, soul, dance , and has made at least 4 perfect records. He's great live and is well respected by his peers. When he made Let Love Rule, the sound and style he brought out were the furthest thing from what was considered 'in' at the time. So , how exactly can you call the guy a poser.

last time i spent a while with one of his albums was "5",
i know a lot of people dislike it but there are some good
tracks on that one.

after that he kind of sounded the same over and over again.

yep, I absofuckinglutely love it. Sounds groovy, sexy, has a good beat and you can dance to it. Better than I could have imagined. And nobody gets an automatic pass from me.

Now, no offense to the original poster, but people could you please stop your whining about this funk album you've supposedly been promised! Get over it and move on with your lives!

Mr. Kravitz couldn't carry Prince's guitar strap. I don't think his name should ever be mentioned with Prince. Kravitz's is a Jack of all trades and the master of none. Being multi-instrumentalists doesn't not make the artist or musicians. He's built a career basically 'covering' other artist musical ideas, without one iota of an original thought or note of his own.

bullshit. Lenny is a master of something - making records people like me wanna listen to and study and enjoy for years. Prince makes lame albums devoid of ...music. It's a bunch of fucking crap that only you suckers eat up because of the legacy he made for himself 25 years ago. Back when, I might add, he was ripping off Hendrix and James Brown.

For all those how've influenced Prince's music James Brown, Jimmy Hendrix and less not forgot Sly & The Family Stone and Larry Graham. What I've heard and what I know, Prince Rogers Nelson did was grow by leaps and bounds in terms of being a songwriter/multi-instrumentalists/producer. The person we saw and heard in 1977 wasn't singing nor playing the same "redundant shit" in 1987. He actually had the talent (that's an understatement) and the knowledge to chisel out his own unique sound. In other words, Prince contributed to the conversation of music and muscianship.

Mr. Kravitz has been playing the same rehashed mess for years since his debut, "Let Love Rule". bored2 me. The "boy" doesn't have it in him..... he can't do any better.

If you wanna blindly worship your purple idol, I respect that, it's really part of the reason I've been orging all these years. To see what you people do next. And I will keep hoping Prince is going to write great songs again sometime in his life. Until then, I got this guy Lenny Kravitz who records really soulful, groovy music with excellent vocals and superior (!) guitar tones. The boy does have it in him, he's got 8 albums of the stuff. Soon to be 9! woot!

This is all so ridiculously funny! Prince and Lenny are both great hybrids. Prince has a distinct sound of his own, but so does Lenny Kravitz. Yes they're both posers just like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Rolling Stones etc...

I mean it's only rock'n'roll.

To be honest I'm not a big fan of Prince, I can take him or leave him. But I know this guy is very talented and has created some good, great, and brilliant music. Like most artist/musicians, Prince has missed the mark from time to time. Mr. Kravitz (IMHO) hasn't even hit the dart board. We like who we like. You hold Mr. Kravizt in high regard, I don't have any regard for him, that's OK.

FYI

"negro":
spanish to english
adjective
1. black (color)

"philia"

Suffixes with the common part -phil- (-phile, -philia, -philic) are used to specify some kind of attraction or affinity to something, in particular the love or obsession with something.
Philia (φιλία) as an ancient Greek word for love refers to brotherly love, including friendship and affection. This contrast to the ancient Greek terms Eros, or sexual/romantic love, and agapē, or detached, spiritual love.

thus :"negrophilia"

i heart "kravitzphilia"

Soul Alive where you at?? We've talked about 'funk' for a while now.

Not bad. The bassline reminds me a little of Chic's "I Want Your Love".
