Superfreak!!

That site has been woefully neglected for many years now. I even wrote the webmaster and executor of Rick's estate several years back to offer assistance on getting that site back up and running, and never heard back from anyone. In the meantime, that forums section in particular has been riddled with coding-errors for the longest. Nice to see someone has picked up the ball.

Someone should be sure and alert mistermaxxx, I'm sure he'll have something to say on the matter.

When it comes to the Rick James website, the thrill is gone. There's only so much you can talk about one particular artist. That's why I don't go into the Prince section of the org nearly as often as I used to. If they got a section for other artists like the org does, it might be hot. With enough members, it might be hotter than the org because Rick James had a lot of fans that were into funk only where Prince has a lot of pop fans also that kind of waters things down sometimes. I know the section for other artists at the Housequake website was absolutely horrible. I think I only went over there about three times.

We talk plenty of shit about Prince over here but we do it with love even if we do come across as "haters" sometimes. But those motherfuckers used to get downright brutal.....

Those were some of the wildest remarks over there. I think those were made when I gave my opinion of Rick's last album and said that Prince may sellout on a song or two (he had out "3121" at the time) but Rick's entire album was a sellout to the current slow to midtempo shit hop type drum machine sound of today. Now you know how I feel about THAT sound and I'm not going to lie about my opinion of it no matter how much I like the artist.

When the subject of Prince came up over there (which was a touchy subject) I usually stuck up for Rick because Prince wasn't no saint either. But when I turned the tables and said Rick's last album was a complete sellout and Prince only sold out on one track, "Incense and Candles", on his last album, it was like throwing a mouse into a pit of snakes. I knew it would be.

First people just stopped posting, then later script errors in the forum coding made the forum completely unusable (...and that's how it remained until now). The Pyro John Chronic-les were what spiced up the place for me. One of Rick's background singers made an appearance for a while - loved that (Lisa or Jackie ???).

Overall, I think that the earlier observation regarding it not being a "watered down" site is accurate. Talk about a double-edged sword...'cuz those folks would cuss somebody out faster than Howard Hughes was makin' money back in the day.

My favorite moment in time with that site was the Pyro John story about Rick and Teena fighting on stage, him having her bent over backward pulling her hair. Her Unsung special was quite enlightening, and funny. She told a little story about how Rick would have glitter in his hair ("they made it out of glass back in those days") and come and shake it all over her on stage. Lady T would be left to scratch for the remainder of the night, tryin' to get that damn glass off of her. "I broke up with him on the first night of the Street tour." "We were never together after that, I never looked back."

It's funny that you mention crack. Do you know how some websites will put ***'s in the place of cuss words that you typed after you hit the "reply" button? One time over there, I typed the word crack in one of my posts. I wasn't even referring to the drug in my post either, I was referring to crack as in a sidewalk or a cracked egg or something. I can't remember what I was talking about but it wasn't about drugs. Anyway, after I hit the "reply" button, my post showed up as "c****".

Talk about controlling. They must've wanted to make damn sure the subject of drugs didn't come up over there.
