Is it just me or was radio reluctant to pick up a load of new singles this quarter? I was hearing the same old shit from summer time.

it's a shame Mika's album didn't do well. It's one of my favorites of the year.

Whitney Houston, Shakira, and Rihanna's albums were hardly flops. especially Whitney's.

Mariah's was a flop.

50 Cent's too. i honestly didn't know he released one this year.

Nah it is not just u the whole Top 10 looks old. The newest song in there is 'Bad Romance' which is already 1 and a half months old. In fact in the whole Top 20 just 3 songs entered the charts within the last 2 months and just 1 song (Rihanna's 'Hard') within the last month

Things are always like this as Christmas approaches. It's a bad idea to release a single in late November or early December because of the Christmas freeze at radio, when all the stations start playing Christmas music and then do their end-of-year countdowns. Radio freezes and bullets drop for about 2 weeks. It's hard for a new song to gain a foothold in that environment. This is why it was such a terrible idea to release Janet's "Feedback" in mid-December.

Well, Rihanna just released her new album and had the highest opening week sales of her career. We'll have to see how it's going to turn out in the long run. I think it's safe to say that Chris's new album is a flop, as it opened with 1/3 the sales of his previous one.

Whitney's has sold 800,000 copies - quite impressive for her.

Ashanti didn't release an album this year lol

How was Shakira not a flop? Her first week sales in the US were below 100k and it was Thanksgiving week.

I agree that Whitney was not a flop, she has already outsold Just Whitney and in the UK that missed the top 75 while this one went to top 10 or around that.

Shakira needs to turn things around fast, and im not talking sales here, im talking respect. She has lost ALOT of respect and loyality from the latin market which is the most loyal. She is not looked on to fondly at all anymore for the most part, i mean her work with Lil Wayne is not impressing the "mexican" crowd that made her an international artist. So its time to put away the rent a rapper techno dance ga ga shit and get real.

But its also to be considered that Shakira is not a mega seller, yes she is when she cuts a latin album, but this whole crossover thing comes in waves and no one is on that wave right now, and also everything she is doing, everyone else is doing so why bother.

Such excuses could be used for any artists. It's not the big voice diva wave on radio like 2005 so Mariah flopped and so on. Shakira is not a new artist, she did have some big hits and properly selling albums so this is a disappointment. And it's not just about the US, the title track was a hit in Europe yet the album is doing disastrously, total worldwide sales are below 500.000!

Chris Cornell's "Scream" album, produced by Timbaland, was a major flop. It was such a departure from Soundgarden/Audioslave/previous solo releases (in a bad way) that it could be a career-killer.

The album sounds like a major sellout.

lol lol lol

A major sellout that doesn't actually sale, how ironic lol lol
This song about "the bitch aint mine" sucks the suckery outta Chris!! What went wrong?? I mean, the guy is from RATM ANDAudioslave!!
I hadforgotten about that one! lol

Cornell was not in RATM - his backing band in Audioslave were. Cornell was in Soundgarden.

Whitney's CD was nowhere near a flop. In fact, in this struggling music industry she is one of the top sellers of 2009. These days if you sell anywhere close to platinum you've got a monster hit. The music industry is in the hopper right now.

Rihanna. I really thought her album would have done better.

Mariah's album flopping is a suprise to me too. She usually sells very well esp. in the U.S.

It's a GH album. So it's not a flop and it did what it was supposed to.

Nope, not shipments, for Madonna the initial shipment was 2 million and sold 1.4 out of that already.

So selling 200k GH in the world is doing fine? Don't think so.

No, albums can get certified based off shipments to whatever country.

Janet's actually selling better than she did with her last two albums. I'm happy for her. and like I said the record label didn't ship many copies so it's not like they had high expectations. She still gots her talent and beauty unlike others biggrin

Who's talking about certifications??? It's about actual sales, not Gold or Platinum stuff.

20 YO sold more than a million and Discipline is around 700k, no way Number Ones is doing any better.
