Mayer Hawthorne - "I'm In Love" Alert Had it not been for Cinnie, I'd probably wouldn't come across this dude's music...
I must admit though, his production hit me before his voice,,,,,I think this is one of the most intersting new artists I recently discovered [Edited 12/24/09 14:14pm]

Isn't his cd great?? I just wish it was longer. It's only like a half hour long. My favorite cut is I Wish It Would Rain. The vocals didn't stand out to me much at first but now I'm appreciating all of the layering and harmonies. Good cd! "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu

I've yet to buy his album, but I'll def will. I only found out about him couple of days ago(Courtesy of Cinnie, again).
I've always been partial to younger artists tackling the "retro" sound(I hate this word btw but I'm drawin' a blank ) some sound FORCED, he however sounds very natural doing it. But the thing that attracted me the most was the production The mixing helped alot too if I might add

Mayer's I Wish it Would Rain is quite similar to the Temptations nugget but not a cover. It's almost like he's presenting it as if he was in an alternate universe and wrote the same tune they did but his way and this is the one that everyone knows now. Weird, and good too. It's the kind of thing that if the Tempts had done this version and we didn't know of the other, this one might have been just as big.
This guy is very talented. I hope he can produce a sophmore effort that matches the magic of his debut and not be looked upon as a novelty artist.
