How exactly did Sly influence Stevie?

I always hear about how Sly was tremendously influential on Stevie's material but I never hear it personally. The things that made sly's music so unique(his idiosyncratically unique voice, his vocal arrangements, that proto-rap music beat pattern, songwriting etc) I can't trace anywhere in Stevie's work. Maybe at a leap I could say a bit of "brave & strong" sounds something like Superstition but that's all. His instrumental tastes maybe similar but from what I know, SW had a clavinet by 65', and played drums & harmonica from the onset. Compositionally, Sly's later work isn't similar to stevie's at all and I haven't listened to enough of his early work but it doesn't seem the same to any of Stevie's compositions in his mature stage.

Just what about Sly influenced Stevie?

I'm hoping some of the people here who understand musical language at a deeper level than myself will respond
Did Prince ever deny he had sex with his sister? I believe not. So there U have it..

As is the case with so many musical giants, I would say they influenced one another. Stevie and the Motown sound influenced the backbeat on Sly's "Dance To The Music". After Sly's first album, "A Whole New Thing" flopped, his record company suggested that he come up with a Motown flavored hit. Of course , " Dance To The Music" influenced Motown as well.
If you listen to Stevie's "Do Yourself A Favor" from "Where I'm Coming From" , it has Sly wriiten all over it.
I also heard a Stevie Wonder interview where he said that "Maybe Your Baby" was influenced by Sly's " You Caught Me Smilin".
Also there's a you tube clip of Stevie covering " Somebody's Watching You" from 1971/1972

I think moreso it was Sly's lyrics that influenced Stevie's lyrics.
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

I'm guessing it's the freedom of unrestricted expression he may have picked up on.
Sly & The Family Stone had released about 4 albums before he was able to break out of his contract player status with Motown and begin to realize his own musical vision.
