The Wall

I know there are a number of Pink Floyd fans here on the org...ive just got into them last month...i got DARK SIDE OF THE MOON,WISH YOU WERE HERE and the album in discussion-THE WALL.
DSOTM was in my cd player all of last month...until i heard THE WALL...theres sumthin bout this album that grabs my emotions in the same way as DSOTM...but it has this vibe i just cant get out of...
The whole thing is like a real movie...although i havent seen THE WALL i can imagine the images goin thru the songs...I love the first CD except MOTHER...reminds me of G'N'R...dayum...the second CD...after COMFORTABLY NUMB it sorta goes down...but really this is a powerful album...and should be in the collection of concept album lovers...

Ciao...

Great album. 1st album I ever bought. Still holds up to this day. The movie is OK...best seen stoned (as is, I guess, the album). I love the whole thing except The Trial (of course) and Outside the Wall.

I have been into these guys forever, and my fave album will always be "Wish You Were Here". That album is a work of art. I think I played Dark Side and The Wall to death, since Wish is the only one I still listen to on a regular basis. Animals is good too. Not crazy over Sid Barrets stuff...but, again, it works well when stoned.

peace

What works well stoned or not would have to be "Animals" or "Wish You Were Here". These two are excellent albums. Also if you get a chance check out The Wall Demos you get to hear how many of the songs developed.

Get the Ís Anybody Out There'box if you can. It's a document of the The Wall'' Tour of 1979-1980. I think all the versions of the songs sound more powerful than the studio version. Also it includes the song 'What Shall We Do Now', which was scrapped from the studio version and which I think is one of the greatest moments of the album. Some extended versions of songs and a beautiful packaging are also there. Since I got this one I hardly ever play the studio version anymore.

And then there's the Wall movie, a bit weird and difficult to follow, but more than a fascinating watch! Available on DVD with a lot of documentaries and an audiocommentary by Roger Waters and Gerald Scarfe.

I love The Wall. I think it's probably the pinnacle of Pink Floyd's career. After that, Roger Waters really took hold and it all went downhill from there...

However, I love all of the albums from Darkside to Momentary Lapse of Reason, except for Animals. For some reason or another, I have never gotten into this album. Probably because there's no real way "in" to the album (ie: WYWH on WYWH or CN on Wall). Instead, it's an album full of 10+ minute songs with another song split between the opening and closing.. Can someone recommend the best way into this CD? It's always bothered me that I can't appreaciate it like I do for the rest of their cds...

Pro and Cons of Hitchhiking- Excellent also the Final Cut if you enjoy the wall. Also, if you want to see an amazing concert video get Live At Pompei. The next best live video next to Sign Of the Times.

One of my favorite Albums. I happen to really like Mother and Run Like Hell and Comfortably Numb. The whole album is Wonderful. I Love Floyd and the movie was absolutely Terrific. I saw it at a midnight showing . Geldorf was Great as Pink. It is a Must see Movie.

The Wall is already Roger Waters taking full control. Check the songwriting credits and you'll notice he wrote every song. Gilmour co-wrote two or three and The TRial was co-written with Bob Ezrin. Vocally it's still well-divided between Waters and Gilmour. Animals was also already mostly written by Waters. The Final Cut is indeed more a Waters solo album than a Pink FLoyd album.

The best way is just to sit and listen to it. Although the songs are long, a lot of stuff happens and also the lyrics are pretty cool (animals as metaphores for types of people).
