growers.

I'm listening to U2's "No Line on the Horizon" album and I'm really digging it. It seems to me to be one of those albums that in retrospect will be viewed very highly. Even though it hasn't produced the gigantic hits, that's really OK cause it's not that kind of album. It requires multiple listens and time to absorb.

A definite grower, at least for me...

so what are some albums that you didn't care for or "get" at first that later on when you gave it another chance, you really started loving it?

Tori Amos - Boys for Pele is another one for me. And I gotta say when I first Radiohead's "In Rainbows" I thought it was kinda lackluster by their standards, but now I think its one of their best works.

ones that come to mind are:

Tori Amos "Abnormally Attracted To Sin"
Mariah Carey "Memoirs ..."
Lily Allen "The Fear"

Michael Jackson's "Invincible" didn't do much for me until years later. it's not a solid album in my opinion, but defintiely better than it was when i initially heard it. the same goes for Green Day's "American Idiot". and Carrie Underwood's sophomore album, "Carnival". their's took a couple months to grow on me. even though i never bought it (which i should), U2's "How To Dismantle.." is one that i ended up really enjoying the more i heard it.

Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue

Took about 50 spins to get it thru my thick skull....it later became my favorite album of all time.

There are so many albums like this. One album that grew on me was Lionel Richie's "Time". First listen, it sounded like garbage. After many spins, it really snuck up on me.

Another is Janet's Damita Jo. I despised this album when it came out, but I kept going back to it. After I "My Baby" one day while driving out of town, I fellin love with the album.

The two that first come to mind for me are

David Grey "White Ladder"
and Miles Davis "Bitches Brew"

Both took a long time t grow on me, but eventually made quite an impression

Amazing album.. and I agree it was a definite grower with me as well. I think it's among her best, and it seems to be sadly overlooked.

i don't know why it didn't initially hit me. maybe my mood at the time. but it IS one of her best. i was listening to it earlier today. turn it up high too.
i LOVE this album. and it's probably in my top 3 albums of hers now.

i had the same reaction, and i agree w/ how good it is. It vies for her best album this decade, along w/ Scarlet's Walk in my opinion. Definitely a great collection of songs, and the production is stellar. So much crisper than American Doll Posse. Even though it doesn't seem to be getting much attention now, I think in the years to come people will rediscover it and it will be considered one of her best works.

the opposite happened with Scarlet's Walk. though i enjoy the album; my enthusiasm kind of faded for it. i still love "Your Cloud", but something got lost in for me. i haven't played it in a while, but i should probably give it another go sometime soon. "American Pose" i enjoy once in a while. i think her albums became a little over produced maybe. i think i love "Abnormally..." a lot because it seems more raw, or stripped down, much like her earlier albums.
