Forgotten R&B female singers---remember these ladies?

***Jennifer Holliday---Now I know you guys remember her 1981 smash hit from the musical 'Dreamgirls',right? It was called "And I Am Telling You That I'm Not Going".Working with producers Maurice White and David Foster, she followed it up with hits like "I Am Love" (1983) and "Let Me Wait"(1983),then started the 90s with a lovely remake of Angela Bofill's "I'm On Your Side".Speaking of Angela Bofill...

***Angela Bofill---In the late 70s,this beautiful songstress burst onto the scene with a bunch of mellow Quiet Storm and jazz grooves, like "Angel Of The Night"(1979) and "I Try"(1979).In the early 80s,she reinvented herself as a sexy R&B vocalist, with jams like "Something About You"(1981) and the sizzling,R-rated smash "Too Tough" in 1982.

***Grace Jones---Yes,she was outrageous and all,but there is no denying that she had real talent. Her powerful vocals gave her several late 70s Disco hits, but it was her 1981 jam "Pull Up To The Bumper" that really made folks pay attention.Subesequent singles like "Nipple To The Bottle"(1982) and "I'm Not Perfect (But I'm Perfect For You)"(1986) were also well-received.

Can you guys name any other forgotten R&B divas that deserve more recognition?

Does anyone know what Gladys Knight is up to these days? She is one of my favorites!!! Very few singers can sing with the same passion and intensity that she has.

The song and video were awesome! The album was pretty cool too! Every cut is a different version of Slave to the Rhythm: And now ladies and gentleman, heeere's Grace!!! I saw her perform at an AIDS dance in NYC some years ago. She still had it. And remember her as "Strange" in Boomerang? biggrin Think about it. She was a "Bond girl" before Halle!

Oh, I will never forget when she performed on Soul Train. She sang "Do or Die." She was wearing some type of cloak; however, when she removed it her catsuit had a horse's tail attached to hit. It was so outrageous. Grace rocked!

Speaking of female singers, wasn't Stephanie Mills all of that!?

Slave to the Rhythm was my all time Grace jam. Cuz she utilized Trouble Funk and the DC go-go sound (one of the earliest).

Gladys Knight is into the restauraunt side of things as well. She has opened up several soul food resturaunts chains here in Atlanta. The name of the restauraunts is called Gladys Knight's Chicken And Waffles . I haven't been to one as of yet{ I hear the food is really good though}. She's about to open one just a few minutes from where I live{so then I REALLY won't have an excuse not to check it out}.

Anybody remember Jane Child? The video for Don't Wanna Fall in Love was great; plus she had that nosering/earring thing going on years before Janet did it in Runaway.

and Dennis Rodman before Dennis Rodman. She was a tight Keyboard Player.but the Warner Brothers didn't fully Push Her after that Song&that Album&the Follow-Up. The Jones Girls are tight as well.Groups like the Jones Girls would Be So Scary if they were out today.

What a slammin' track! :I: was listening 2 it yesterday. Teddy Riley's New Jack Swing version is the schiznit!

She was long B4 Pink man! Long B4 Pink and more hardcore than E.G. Daily!

Jane Child was the shit..have that album "Welcome to the Real World" was another one off of that album.

Lisa Stansfield is waaay underated...I love her along with Taylor Dane!

Cheryl Lynn!!! What!! Shake it up tonite...ooo ooo...Move ya body left and right!!! She could blow some of these new jacks off the stage!!

Michel'le...have her first album...great voice(singing that is) Bad managers

Shanice...I stated this on another thread, Love her!!! The first album has an interlude called "Inner Child"...if you don't know, then ask sum-bod-eee!

Stephanie and Angela...NOONE if fucking with them...their in a class all by themselves.

Grace...when she comes to Club Sheltor in NY it's packed...nuff said!

Power Women like Martha Walshe, Patti Austin, Roberta Flack...we hear them all the time but are not aware of it most of the time. They do Disney, and tons of commercial ads..what a shame, I would pay to see these women today.

What the hell happened to Stacey Lattisaw? Remember when Countess Vaughn was on Star Search...how come she doesn't sing anymore? Why isn't Tisha Campbell Martin and Tichina Arnold doing anything? disbelief what a pity...

I saw her playing a mom on a tv show recently. I think it was the show starring Flex as a single dad. She played his daughter's mother. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

Speaking of actress/singers... Remember Jasmine Guy's and Debbie Allen's singing careers? I really did like Debbie's "Special Look."

Anyone remember Suzy Lane? She sang Harmony

Hey, where's Nona Hendryx?
