"I'll teach you to play with my affections"

"NOW GIV IT HERE,,, YA NEVER SHOULDN'T PROMISE IT TO ME"

Remember the Deele songs "Just My Luck"(1984) and "Shoot Em Up Movies"(1987)? There really needs to be some kind of Deele Greatest Hits CD,with maybe a few song from the first Babyface solo album (remember "Mary Mack"?).

By the way, DavidEye, there is a CD called The Best Of The Deele; I found it and bought it several years ago. The track listing is as follows:

"Two Occasions"
"Shoot 'Em Up Movies"
"Body Talk"
"I Surrender"
"Just My Luck"
"Sexy Love"
"You're All I've Ever Known"
"Suspicious"
"Material Thangz"
"I'll Send You Roses"
"Sweet November"
"Let No One Separate Us"
"Can-U-Dance"
"Dry Your Eyes"
"Crazy 'Bout 'Cha"
"Eyes Of A Stranger"

I was just getting into songwriting and production in the mid-late 80s, and L.A. and Babyface (along with Jam & Lewis and a few others) were a major influence.

I also have Babyface's first album, Lovers, on CD. A bandmate bought that in 1986 when it was first released, and we actually ended up playing some of those songs (including "I Love You Babe" and "Mary Mack") in talent shows. It is still my favorite Babyface album.

"Mary Mack" was the Cut.Babyface hasn't showcased His Funk Chops near enough overall IMHO.I was feeling Produciton duos around the same time as well.

Do you guys remember the group Odyssey? They're the folks who sing "Native New Yorker",a huge Disco hit back in '78.They followed it up with other hits like "Weekend Lover"(1978),"Don't Tell Me,Tell Her"(1980) and "Inside Out"(1982),which sounds a little TOO much like Slave.

OMG! I love this joint! ("Inside Out") And yes, it's sounds SO much like Slave's "Watching You." (I just had to put this one in my PC's CD drive just now!)

I am loving this thread -- it brings back a lot of memories! I have Greatest Hits collections on CD for Aurra, Skyy and Slave that get played quite a bit (along with Steve Arrington's Hall Of Fame : I)

The similarities between Odyssey's "Inside Out" and Slave's "Watching You" are hardly coincidental. Odyssey consulted the Slave Organization for assistance: Slave's producer Jimmy Douglass produced "Inside Out" and Slave bassist Mark Adams played on the track.

A few more forgotten bands...

***The Dazz Band---"Now that you can see,how you groove with me,what else can I do to get closer to you? We both are here to have big fun,so Let It Whip".I actually heard this song on the way to work today.

***Ozone---These guys were Teena Marie's backing band, and in late 1981,they released their own album, with production assistance from Teena.Remember the jams "Gigolette" and "Strut My Thang"?

***Club Nouveau---You guys remember their 1986 debut album.I used to play it to death. They had one hit after another..."Jealousy","Situation Number 9","Lean On Me","Why You Treat Me So Bad",and "Heavy On My Mind".And I was crazy about the album's lone slow jam,"Let Me Go".

***Dreamboy---These guys were total Prince clones. In 1983,they burst on the scene with the ballad "Don't Go",followed it up with the funky "Walk The Streets".
