What do y'all think of Kelis?

Not her personal life, but her music. Do you think she is a standout among all the other female artists, do you think she has the potential to be a legend? Do you think she is talented? I think she is interesting and mad talented.

I find her boring. The only song I can remember from her is some novelty song about a milk shake.

I think she's wildly interesting, varied and talented.

She has always had a spark about her that a lot of contemporary R&B female artists lack. So much so that I wouldn't just label her plain ole "R&B"

She's a definite standout, but I have the feeling she'll be one of those artists that future generations discover through re-issues and 'on second thought' kind of pieces.

Her style is more inflential, imo.

I thought the songs on Tasty that weren't huge hits. Being every song on the album but Milkshake were good.

These 2 in particular.

I've heard that her 2nd album Wanderland was a great record, but it wasn't released here in the states.

She's always been an "alternative", leftfied yet influential and consistently interesting artist. I could definitely see her music on an alternative Best of the 2000s type comp. Of course she's remembered largely in the mainstream for Milkshake, but people who truly remember the music of each decade and the music in it will excavate her gems somehow. They will rise to the top. People will play Tasty and Kaleidoscope 20 years from now just as much as people reference classic/groundbreaking albums from other decades.

Agreed. nod

What about Wanderland? I'd probably rank it underneath Tasty and Kaleidoscope, but it has some of all-time favorites, as well.

I still don't know why Millionaire didn't become a huge hit single.

Kelis and Andre had the 2 biggest hits of that year.

That shit should've a no-brainer of a hit song.

Maybe cause Kelis was too risky and not mainstream enough?

I've loved Kelis since she first came out. I dig her raspy voice and most everything she's done with the Neptunes. I like that she's not super popular and doesn't sing mainstream R&B. Acapella is a nice return... can't wait to hear the new album.

was disappointed that she dumbed herself down to "introduce" herself to the hip hoppers with Milkshake. i like her more alternative leanings.

Her second album Wanderland was her best. As much as a guilty pleasure "Milkshake" is, I liked her a lot less when she tried to become more mainstream. That last album was pretty bad.

she has some really good albums [tasty and kaleidoscope], and a decent and interesting voice.
i really love her work with raphael saadiq, and, of course, the neptunes. nod

I loved that crazy bitch.

Like sexton, I loved her until she tried to go mainstream. The only plus was I hoped that hearing her new stuff would make people go back and listen to her old stuff.

I absolutely love Kelis! This girl is unique. She was one of the very few black artists male or female that was really doing her own thing at a time when it wsn't cool to be "different". Of course now everyone has jumped on the band wagon but i have a lot of respect for her and can't wait to see what she does next. She is like the black Roisin Murphy to me.

I loved "Kaleidoscope"!!!! I remember seeing her at Publix during that time and my co-workers were like "who is she?"

Never heard "Wanderland", but "Tasty" was horrible.

Hip hoppers knew who she was way before milkshake, she did background vocals and choruses for hip hop songs during "Kalidescope"..also Milkshake was consistent with her quirkiness nature and her track from Wanderland..which shouldve been released in the states(hidden gem)..the label got scared and released it abroad..
