No.. I believe Cinnie posted the vid for people who said she doesn't play a instruement, questioned does she write her own songs and that she can't sing...
we all know it's only one Prince wink

Yea, and he quoted me and posted the video. I never said she couldn't play piano. What's so special about that? lol

I think Gaga has an awesome voice, and it's cool to find out she can play. But I absolutely do not see the comparison.

lol I admittedly said that I don't know much about her (aside from what they play OVER and OVER on the radio). Looks like from the video she plays fairly well and has a decent voice...nothing special. A poor version of Alicia Keys perhaps...

On the real, this talk of Lady GaGa being the next Prince is silly....

But, that's totally different than totally dismissing her as a no-talent product on the level of Britney Spears as I've been reading throughout this thread.....

In today's music industry finding acts that write their own material, write for others and play instruments is a rarity given the way the music biz is ran today...Whether or not you like the music she makes is a whole other discussion...

In other words, Lady GaGa may not be a Prince....But she sure as hell aint Britney Spears and the rest of the dance-first-ask-questions-later pop acts...

It's okay to admit that the girl is talented.....

people think it's a gimmick but i just don't believe that. there are

These people are right: Lady Gaga IS a gimmick.

I really can't believe why some people here who seem to have a rather good taste in 'real' music, think Lady Gaga belongs in that camp.

IMO her visuals are as blatant as the kind of predictable 'shock value' (NOT of course) Marilyn Manson used to offer. And below that visuals lies music that is just as prefab as anything Britney Spears has done. I mean: look at a song like Eh Eh for example, that is just cheap, poorly composed prefab dance-pop.

Gaga writes her material, unlike Britney Spears, and plays piano, unlike BS, so how exactly is she a gimmick? Her visuals may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is different than what is out there. I'm sure that people said this exact same thing about Prince when he first came out, that he was a "gimmick"...

GaGa writes her own material, she plays instruments, she sings live EVERY PERFORMANCE, she gives you 100% every show, she's an "okay" dancer, she has a great personality, she doesn't disrespect other artists, How is she a gimmick?

Can't say I'm a diehard fan, but really got into the song Speechless live from the AMA's and Ellen. I'm sure you've heard Poker Face, she is definitely a dance artist. Everyone seems to be giving her crap on here about her image. Personally I like the whole package deal, not like these peeps that come on American Idol and can sing, but are boring as hell to look at and such. She's sexual, provocative, in a different kind of way. In Prince's day his image definitely played a big part in his career.

True. GaGa's image plays a big part. The good thing about GaGa's image is, just like Prince's image, it doesn't look "forced"

I think you're missing the point of this thread. It seems pretty much everyone here except the original poster agrees that Lady Gaga can't really be compared to Prince at all from an artistic sense. The thread's shifted more so towards the idea that Lady Gaga is actually talented and deserves respect, unlike many of her "peers" in the top 40 at the moment.

Oh come on. Even back when Prince's image was shocking, it looked SOOOOO contrived and forced. There's no way you can say that was natural for him. Over time, it became natural for him, but there's no way that it was to begin with.

First of all, it's "writes and sings well."

Second, that's all a matter of perspective. You don't have to think she writes well, or can sing worth a lick. Point is, other people do, and it's not fair to trash other people because they think that way.

Actually, Prince didn't come off contrived and forced at all. Lady Gaga on the other hand does come off that way. Just reading her interviews is rolleyes

Um okay neutral I don't think she writes or sings well. That's all.

I've warmed to her slightly in recent weeks. I'll never be that interested because she has no substance, but that tune of hers ("Just Dance"?) is kind of funky. The drum sound is pure Prince ("You Got The Look"). But I heard another song of hers recently that is just annoying drivel ("Paparazzi"). Yuck.

The first I heard of her was here on the org where someone started a thread of her singing and playing piano at the same time, as if it was astonishing, but actually she just came across as a pretentious poser. She's much better doing the quirky superficial thing than trying to fake depth she doesn't have.
