i'm 99% certain that enid jackson hooked up with jack gordon...yes, that jack gordon...to have him manage her daughter. i remember that she, jack and the daughter were on the howard stern show. maybe i'll do a google search to see if i can verify my memory, or perhaps another poster may remember, but i remember when she died thinking, 'see, god don't love ugly.'

Say whaaaaat?? I thought Jack Gordon was Latoya's man??

i didn't mean 'hook up' as in sex, i meant tried to hook her daughter up with him as a manager. if you look at my subsequent posts, it turns out he was only supposed to be a 'public relations' person while enid was the manager. but what made me think about it was seeing that jet cover, and i remembered what a bad mother she was, trying to go into business with jack gordon to handle her daughter after what happened with latoya. i searched the web and found that horrific article so i didn't even know the half of it!

The problem with the Jackson family is the problem with many dysfunctional families - the parents.

Joe began dipping out on his vows way before he even formed the Jacksons. Then he abused his wife and his children. Instead of leaving, Katherine turned to being a Jehovah's Witness (which I think is false doctrine) comforted by the rigid structure it provided for her life.

The children were raised with two conflicting value systems. One was the conservative religious life that Katherine led them into - even praying before their band practices. The other was the riotous values of Joseph who led his children into nightclubs, stripclubs and made his adultery visible to his children.

The two children who survived both married young - Rebbie, also structured by JW teachings with her husband and Marlon, a devoted Christian with his wife.

The rest of them, did the best they could with what they knew at the time. Why is it strange that some of the brothers are accused (convicted in the case of Randy) of abusing their wives or girlfriends? They were raised in a household where a man "disciplined" his wife and children with violence routinely (almost daily).

Most people who survived a dysfunctional family struggle with this simple template for success: Gain skills, choose a career, marry a spouse, have children, pursue your interests.

To me, Marlon is the shining star. He married a woman, had kids, and remains married to her. He became a provider, husband and father. The other brothers all struggled (& as senior citizens, continue to struggle) with with this (including Michael's dysfunction with women).

Still their personal lives do not take away from their talent. They are all very talented and skilled in music. I would definitely attend a concert with the Jacksons. I've never attended a Jacksons concert but all the footage shows they ALL know how to put on a good show. I love the music first.

I agree with the Marlon part, he may have come across the least talented and he probably got more beatings than MJ as a child, due to his lack of talent but like MJ he too distanced himself from his family and in a way it worked for him. Probably because his priority was being a husband and father first and foremost and not being the biggest star in the world.

YES! I think that Marlon and the other brothers got beat worse than MJ did, but it affected MJ more than the other brothers, he was more sensitive, they had a tougher skin. I don't know about the sisters, but I think that the brothers got beat more than the sisters did, at least from what I read. Especially during their practice. It was always like 'Do it like Michael.' Even MJ said himself that he got spankings 'afterwards' but not during the practice cause he was always the best dancer. LOL.

Without Michael they're irrelevant, especially Jermaine. He was so jealous of Michael it was unreal. I would watch but Jermaine really turns me off (as I read his exwife's book).

Provider? He filled for bankrupcy many times in the 90's. He may be the less troubled though, probably because he wasn't pushed as hard as the others, but he wasn't, definitely, the provider. Still, he was the only one with a brain.

According to the phone conversation with Glenda, the boys "got beatings all the time". However, Michael suffered something the others didn't; he suffered verbal abuse and was pressured/hounded/stalked by his father until the day he died.

I was a kid when this album was released but I remember that it was a huge album in the R&B world. The two singles "Enjoy Yourself" and "Show You The Way To Go" were all over the R&B stations. It's one of my favorite Jacksons albums.Does anyone know if it has ever been remastered?

Japanese only paper sleeve pressing features all new 2009 remastering of this album. 'The Jacksons' album. I think it can be purchased via Amazon.com.

Thanks for the info.I'm gonna order it thumbs up! I'm a huge fan of Gamble and Huff as well, and I think they did a superb job on this album.

So, you are defending Joe right? You are defending the cold hearted abuser! Perhaps, just perhaps, you ought to start questioning your morals. Just a piece of advice. I, for one, refuse to defend monsters. But, hey (!), we have different values, apparently.

Michael claimed on Moonwalker that he got beatings after the rehearsels and he got beaten A LOT.

It must difficult to have people judge your every action, remark, and decisions and have some people (myself included) think they can claim a definitive knowledge about your life just because media/press said so. To be fair, I think a lot of lies, half truths have been laid at the Jacksons' family feet also. Far to many times just because such bullshit is repeated and often, it's taken as gospel.

In a nutshell, what's bewailed the Jackson's has been repeated time and time in the entrainment/music industry. Artist/musicians inability to manage and function in a hedonistic/ruthless industry. Review the names of their formers label mates at Motown and what be-failed them. It appears people who've had somewhat dysfunctional or difficulties family lives seek music as a profession and regrettable fame appears to exacerbate their insecurities and foibles. As someone said, 'When you become rich and famous, there is no handbook/manual/guide to get you through it'. In my opinion one can't spend a life continuing to lay all the blame for your actions, troubles, or poor decisions on daddy or mommy either. Some if not most mistakes are Yours, own them.

All the Jackson (with exception of Janet & Reba) haven't managed their lives very well, specifically speaking of their finances. All have been broke, on their ass, and mismanage/squandered millions and the case of Michael, billions.

Having said that.....

Like SoulAlive, I have trepidation about them doing the show and wonder what good if anything would come from it. I was really surprised Marlon signed on too. But listening to them talking lil' bit about their lives and the life they shared with their late brother, they loved him and Michael loved his brothers, his family. I have siblings and it's taken us some time to mature to respect that just because we see some events differently doesn't discredit either perspectives. In fact, to be dismissive of someone feeling/perceptions may be just as wrong, disrespectful. Somethings are resolved and somethings a Jermaine said, 'You agree to respectively disagree but at the end of the day you love each other madly and have each others back'. I'm sure they've all said and done things they've regretted. I would like to think the death of Michael put somethings in proper perspective and they've all realized on some issues mole hills were made out of mountains and all they have is each other no matter what.

I guess it depends on your birth, where your timeline starts, mine starts' in the 60's when 'The Jackson 5' played in local talent contest in Gary and at after school sock hops before the became 'THE JACKSON FIVE'. I bought all the records, albums, the "shit", concerts tickets, and followed supported them ...Michael's solo career, only taking a step back after the release of "Thriller". It's silly to speak of Michael Jackson brothers as gum under his shoes to be scrapped off so he could move on to bigger and better things. He didn't start off as a solo artist and he walked instep with them which prepared and nurtured a brilliant artist. Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Randy deserve and have earned the respect to be viewed and known as artist/musicians who were once apart of and contributed to a Legendary music group named, The Jackson 5/The Jackson's respectively. (IMHO)

I had heard about the show a while back , way before michael died and I had interest in it.I was interested in what his brothers were doing because you don't hear alot about them and compare to alot of michael's stan I don't just skip to thriller etc i'm a fan of the jackson 5/jacksons as well(Even though Michael my main one but still lol)I just have a feeling the show might back fire on them or expose to many other things but I'll watch the first two episodes . I doubt if I will be watching on a regular basis though .

You're overzealous because you dont actually know these people. I believe Margaret and Latoya myself as well but I cant get too angry or into an argument over it because I will never know for sure. I could understand if you were Margaret herself or someone else who has been directly targeted by them, but your just going on second hand information. Your hatred for them is just a bit too full on. And like I said alot of the information about them makes my skin crawl, but, again, I really don't know them. Not unless I have been spurned by them myself would I argue to the death of it

I don't know what to believe about LaToya sometimes because her stories are too inconsistent. For instance, she stated that Micheal is a pedophile and then she changes her story because she claimed her husband put her under the influence to lie. My personal opinion about MJ is yeah, he led a bizarre life, but I do not believe he's a pedophile.

I believe she was telling the truth for the first couple of years, but then the more control he got over her the more she started to embellish, like the allegations and the sexual abuse from Joe. She never once stated in any way he was suspicious around children before the allegations or that Joe had done any kind of sexual abuse to her before. She had nothing but normal sibling things to say about Michael in her book and interviews and she was happy to state the physical abuse that Joe dished out. I think by the time the allegations came around Jack had took control and then started to do what Latoya is now saying he did. It was probably a gradual process of gaining control of her.

No Michael (and Latoya for that matter) clearly state that Jackie got the verbal abuse the worst from Joe out of all the kids. I always watch for his reaction when asked about Joe. He seems to be going along with the lie just like the rest.
