Damn 10 years ago, Sisqo Unleashed The Dragon

As I just turned 30 few days ago, I became more and more nostalgic of my youth and I love to remember how the music used to be 10 years ago. When I was just 20...

And it's funny how black music has changed so much... to the worst

Anyway...

Of course 10 years ago, one of the black artists who made a HUGE impact on the r&b scene was Sisqo. Funny how people of my age back in the days used to HATE HIM. Some people need to remember that the late 90's were the years of Mary J, Janet Jackson, Ginuwine, R.Kelly, D'Angelo, Lauryn Hill, Bilal, etc

Sisqo was mostly seen as joke or a good artist as best, guys used to hate him and girls loved him. I've always hated Dru Hill (many thought they were gay) for some reason. And of course nobody could understand why Sisqo's album was so big. At that time he was even bigger than Usher, hard to image that but it's true. lol

He was just everywhere...

Many people compared him to Mj or Prince for his flamboyance, eccentricity, hair, fashion style, androgyny and gayness which was uncommon back then for an r&b artist.

2000 was his year thanks to his first release Unleash The Dragon. Everybody remember the Thong Song and I can't deny that back in the days, I just hated this song, I thought it was trash.

But now that I'm 30 years old, I've just changed my mind. I think Sisqo wasn't that bad after all. He tried to be different and released a good first album. I've learned to respect him more, and most importantly he was a HELL OF A SINGER. He could outsing any new talent of today.

Too bad his second LP didn't match the quality of his first one... He could have been one of the biggest act of the decade...

Here's some old videos of Sisqo :

I loved Dru Hill, hated when they broke up. Loved it when Sisqo carried on his own. Yes, he could sang! Nothing like the trash you hear today. But he's faded into obscurity. I think of him often, hoping he'll make a comeback before it's too late, (someitmes, artist wait too long and it's not pretty).
But Sisqo had the talent, he could dance. I miss him.

I remember being as young as 5/6 years old listening to Dru Hill's music. They were the shit back in the day!!! And that was what 12/13 years ago????!!!! LOL LAWD I feel old, a lot of people my age probably don't know who the hell they are or even who Sisqo was unless they heard the "Thong Song" or accusations of him being gay. lol lol lol lol I loved "Incomplete" I thought that was a good song.

Kinda miss him too... Actually as someone said, he tried to bring something differenntly (not musically, but in looks, concept, etc...) and l liked it, because that was the time R&B was starting to get eaten up by that "ghetto hip-hop tough guys" mentality, and l kinda like his "weirdness" as a black, R&B artist...
