Why is R&B/Soul music and Pop Music so genric

Why are these two great genres are so genric now it seems like the music today lacks soul and great memorable songs. It is hard to believe how much mainstream R&B is so dull it seems like everyone sounds the same.

Why does the music industry refuse to promote great singers that are out here today than can change music and proabably increase album sales.

Pop music is also in the worse shape it has ever been anytime we think songs like Buttons and Hips Don't Lie are great songs than something is wrong.

I miss the old great pop acts like Hall and Oates, Prince, Boyz II Men etc

Do you think so

*** Another question should they bring back in old music shows like Soul Train and American Bandstand

Because it's full of computer users, posers, and wannabes. True talent is the exception, not the rule.

Because for the most part, people who can sing are ugly.
Did Prince ever deny he had sex with his sister? I believe not. So there U have it..

Maybe, but there's some truth to that statement.

Had Ella Fitzgerald emerged in this day & age, she would've fell between the crack of obscurity.

And while I don't find her to be ugly at all,,,,,mainstream America does.

I'm glad that Susan Boyle is finding huge success over here even though I don't listen to her music,,,,maybe JUST MAYBE, she might break this shallow circle.

A singer nowadays have to fit into a VERY limited "job description" without much emphasis on the title of her/his profession; singing.

You have to be ttractive to be a pop artist are the record label can't market you...plain and simple. We live in a superficial society which is 100% true otherwise models wouldn't be making more money in a year than most doctors do in a lifetime. Honestly, if the music biz was more focused on real musical talent, music would be a hell of alot better than it currently is. Listen to the music from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s as opposed to most of the popular songs of the 90s and 00s...big difference in musical quality; but most of the current artists are waay more attractive (and a lot more air-brushed) than older acts were. It's become a image game, which is sad on all levels because the real talent slips through the cracks because they don't look like Beyonce. disbelief

Because it's all shit hop influenced.

The question shouldn't be about the singers but should be about musicians. It doesn't matter how good someone can sing but if they don't have good music behind them, the songs are going to sound like shit. So, why does the music industry refuse to promote great musicians? Because it would cost more to make the music. They aren't going to let anything threaten the cheapest made music possible. This ain't like the old days when the music business was about music. These days, it's all business and no music whatsoever.

Those were both dance shows. You can't have a dance show when all the music that is being made is as slow as fucking Lawrence Welk unless the dancers are going to waltz or something.

lol lol lol There goes the anti-shit-hop guy lol
Btw everything you said is true... Today, talent is not enough to "make it"... Actually, you'll have to dumb down your talent to get a spot in Hollywhore and the music business... You wanna sing deeo lyrics? Forget about that, execs will tell you "We want a song about love in the club, partying like a rockstar or sex in the kitchen... That's what the (mainstream) public want"... Back in the day, most artists didnt have total control of their creation, but today it has gotten worst... They all want a new Beyoncé, a new Usher, a new Coldplay... That's what it starts sounding the same... Back in the day, l was more of a mainstream music fan, but ever since some of my fav artists went wrong ( like R. Kelly, Janet), l'm more of an indie fan now, like many orgers l guess... And God, l'm so glad... Ther's so much variety, innovation, in the indie/underground scene...
Everybody is somebody, but nobody wants to be themselves.

Because the music industry - like most other formerly-grand American indutries - is a slave to profit margins, and they value earnings potential over quality.

That is because these new producers/beatmakers today are buying their instruments from Toys-R-Us more and Sweetwater/Guitar Center/Musician's Friend less.
