there is no point lol
this is part of why i RARELY buy cds
and even when i do buy them, i never buy them as soon as they come out
because you just never know
i don't even care about the new songs as much,i can just download those later - but sometimes they change the artwork and then you want that so its like ugh
best to just wait until later
Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...
...And i'm gonna be groovy in it!

Yeah, exactly!! l don"t get it, especially in these "downloading" days... It makes non sense... Beyoncé's "Sasha Fierce" is the worst case!!
What's the point of having : The "regular" version, the Deluxe, the Super Deluxe, The Ûber Deluxe, the Limited 2 CD special edition, the CD+ DVD Edition, the "If-U-Don't-Buy-It-Then-U-R-not-a-real-fan" version, the hebrew or mongolian version?? They're so full of shit mad
Everybody is somebody, but nobody wants to be themselves.

It's the same problem with dvds..at first, consumers flocked to these "special edition" released but they quickly realized they were being bilked and now the general public feels abused. And labels and studios wonder why people feel it's okay to download stuff illegally.

dvd sales used to be huge until the studios got greedy...you think the labels would look at both situations and (past and recent) and learn from their mistakes.
Space for sale...

I do some research and find out if there's a deluxe edition due. Madonna usually releases the deluxe at the same time the regular album is out. Maxwell did that too, as does Janet. I like having the choice early on. If it's someone I really like, I'll wait on the deluxe in a few months.

Most of the time the deluxe edition is available at the same time the regualr album is. I go for the deluxe edition even though it's a few dollars more.

I keep an eye out for the first week release. It's always on sale, and even the deluxe is cheap. Sometimes the sale price for the deluxe is the regular price for the regular edition, so it's already worth it. Plus, I just like having the special edition.

Not all deluxe editions are created equal. A lot of them have after-thought songs or outtakes tacked on to them.

Sometimes it is well calculated, such as Usher's Confessions album which had his hit duet single with Alicia Keys "My Boo" only available on the deluxe version.

Beyonce is the most frustrating. I wouldn't even no which version to get of her last album. (I have none of them giggle)

Most put out the deluxe the same day, however more RB artists and some pop and hip hop tend to go back and reissue the same record with something new on it. Limited Editions should always be out the same day, especially for artists with loyal followings, like an rem or pearl jam etc..

It makes me feel less bad when I download the deluxe edition and only keep the bonus tracks.

Not only it's silly, but it goes to show the reasonable doubts within some artists and their label CEOs.

What the hell is the point of buying a new album when you know they'll 'deluxe it' within a year?

Thank You!! clapping I was asking myself this question for soo long until I came up with the only answer that made sense. More $$. I've just started waiting to buy albums; usually I just buy them used off of Secondspin.com or Ebay...no soundscan credit; no full price sell points; and, I still get the album...their lose. Personally, I think re-releasing an album after adding a few remixes and a new song or two is greedy, lazy, and stupid...and I thought making greatest hits complitations was bad but this is 10 times worse. I stopped buying albums on debut week because of this crap. I won't be helping them get that number #1 debut spot with a re-issue that's for damn sure. I'll just wait until the 'deluxe edition' comes out. Patience is a virtue after all and I'd rather have the virtue than two copies of the same album. Just my twocents

If you do the album right the first time, there won't be any need for a re-release.
