Did Chaka write her own material? I don't think I have ever heard of her writing any songs, just singing. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

She's credited with cowriting the hits "You Got The Love", "Sweet Thing" and "Stay" in addition to many non-single tracks while a member of Rufus. She had contributed at least one of more songs to her solo projects.

Imagine how much money she made on "Chinatown". It was the b-side to "I Feel For You". I know her bank account got really phat in 1984. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

- I believe she co-wrote "Tell Me Something Good" w/ Stevie Wonder but she never got a credit on it so that was quite a bit of money she missed out on

No, Stevie wrote that song after hearing her sing and fell in love with her voice. That's what I've always read and heard. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I've heard otherwise and I think it was in her autobio as well My bad if I'm incorrect I'll have to re-read her autobiography. I remember Stevie discussing it on his radio show about how he wrote the song for Chaka. I think he had heard Chaka singing live during a tour and went home and got the song together and sent it to her. I'm sure if she did co-write it, it may have been a minor change and they decided not to give her credit. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

She came up with the 1st line of the song,,,,,and Steveland came up with the rest.
Mstrustme is correct, Chaka mentioned it in her autobio.

Mstrustme is correct, Chaka mentioned it in her autobio. So, an opening line does not necessarily mean a writing credit, I guess. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Mstrustme is correct, Chaka mentioned it in her autobio. So, an opening line does not necessarily mean a writing credit, I guess. She may inspired the birth of the song,,,but the process is Stevie's ALL the way.

I also read where she was a co-writer of "Tell Me Something Good". This is rather recent news because it has always been said that Stevie was the one and only writer. She also wrote "Angel", from her last album "Funk This". "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Some others Chaka co-authored: "Some Love" (from 'Chaka'), "What You Did" (from 'Naughty), "Heed The Warning" (from 'What Cha' Gonna Do For Me'), "Try a Little Understanding" (from 'Stompin' ath the Savoy'), "La Flamme" (from 'I Feel For You'), "Coltrane Dreams" (from Destiny), "Everybody Needs Some Love" (the non-LP B-side to "Baby Me"), and "Be My Eyes" (from 'The Woman I Am').

She wrote 3/4 of the songs from the shelved album Dare You To Love Me as well, most notably, her tribute to her father Love Me Still.
