Question: Dreamgirls' Family (House Mix) Vocals

So, I loathe sped up vocals to remixes. It's lazy and annoying...Well, this morning, during my jog, my trusty ipod podcast starts playing a remix of Dreamgirl's Family:

The vocals fit perfectly! So, my question is: Are these vocals new recordings or are they taken straight from the soundtrack/movie? Also, was this a dance hit back in the day? I'm so old and haven't hit a dive in ages...I haven't a clue.

It sounds like the a capella track played against a house track. This is why it sounds the way it does. I have done something like this, when I play.
"Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

lol

In my defense, the version I heard was more of a deep house mix but that one isn't on youtube. The main difference is the heavy synths are not a part of it...gives it a more organic feel. I liked it.
