Clapton - 'Cocaine' Live!

Clapton's live version of 'Cocaine' off of his 1979 live album 'Just One Night' is excellent! His guitar solo is insane! This man is not overrated as a guitarist the way some claim him to be. Whenever he decided to let loose on his axe he was right there with the very best of them. If you want more proof then just listen to his playing on 'Derek and The Dominos Live at the Filmore'. I suppose he decided to be more of a singer-songwriter in regards to his solo career. This probably caused some to forget what an awesome guitar player he was. He is not overrated, but perhaps too often forgotten about or overlooked.

IMO, I don't think he lost his mojo, it was more like the older you get or maybe at a certain point in your music, you might not feel the need 2 be flashin all the time 'cause that shit is hard 2 do night after night and year after year. Thats why I have a lot of respect for all musicians and entertainers 'cause as much fun and beautiful as it is to create and play, when you add money, your own expectations, the critics, and the audience your playin for that shit get and is more physically and mentally demanding than most people will ever know. smile

Claptons guitar playing in 60's and during Dominos phase
is light years away
from Clapton we know as a guitarist.

His wah wah playing at the beginning of 'Why does love got the be so sad' is real funky if you ask me! I LOVE IT! 'Got to get better in a little while' is also pretty funky in the beginning right before the vocals come in, almost like a James Brown sound.

I dig this version better than the studio version definately in regards to Clapton's playing. I myself always dug Eric the best when he was with Cream. Just a personal preference. wink But I have many of Eric's 70's, 80's and beyond studio work. I love his Robert Johnson album...
