Technics to cease production :(

"In a statement re-posted on dance board Global Hardstyle, the company behind the production of the Technics turntables Panasonic announced that they would cease the manufacture of Tehcnics turntables in February next year, citing an increasing decline in sales as the motivation behind the line’s demise

I had to get a new belt and a new needle cartridge for my 20+ year old Technics turntable a few months ago. Now it works like new. Great product.
Prince sounds so much better on vinyl.

Wow, this is kinda sad.. but with today's technology shifting more and more away from analog, it was going to happen.

I can't imagine what else is selling better with the Technics brand? confuse

What about reports that more vinyl is being sold? They managed to not discontinue selling 1200's from 1988-1998

THIS^ is a sad day folks! disbelief

Technics brand turntables have been a part of many music genres over the years. hip-hop/rap, house, techno, breakbeats, jungle/d&b, trance, electro, & The Funk.

Damn you iPods!!!!

Even before the economy went recession on all of us, there were already some DJ using their CD turntables, laptops &/or mp3 players (especially iPods) as part of their live mixing set-up.

confuse

The part that I don't get is, most DJs who have switched to "digital" files just use their laptop hooked up to their mixer and still manipulate the files with platters on (Technics) turntables.

Maybe they saw DJ Hero's sales. lol

Laugh now. But those flash drives are selling well. One of these days, they might be good enough to put printers AND copiers out of usage.

One of these days, electronic technology will advance to the point that anyone can produce their debut album with their iPods. I've already seen a few software instruments (mostly synths & pattern-based drum sequencer) on the market.

That time is now..I just finish my whole EP using the beatmaker app on my iphone..(just have to add warm vocals)..I'll compare it to the EP I did during the summer with the usual protools and release which one I like the best..yeah technology sucks..lol

Believe it or not whats moving is those Vinyl to USB deals, as far as i know Technics isnt involved with that, as far as i know, maybe they are, but i doubt it. This is where i have heard the sales are coming from since these deals also work as regular TurnTables if you want to listen to something.

An interesting turntable article.
It's written from the perspective of someone who's not a fan of the 1200.

Keep in mind he's not a DJ but an audiophile dude.
That being said, he makes some very valid points for those considering a purchase.
