double standard? Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones arrested for domestic violence

The media was all over Chris Brown, and to a smaller degree BeBe Winans, and Ike Turner could never catch a break...now Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood has been arrested for suspicion of beating his young girlfriend's ass, and no outcry.
Hmmmmm, kinda makes you think

Didn't the Stones have a song called "Shattered"?

But mainly its not picked up by TMZ which is nothing more than the "youngster" hotline to trash and useless news. I mean the chris brown thing spread like wildfire because kids use the net, they blog, they post on You Tube etc... Most kids have never heard of Ron Wood, and some have never even heard of the Rolling Stones. Someone like Chris Brown is on tv,bet.mtv.vh1 24/7 prior to all of this, magazines.videos. If you want the spotlight, you get it every way, not just the ways for you to profit on it.

1.) He's old
2.) Today's mainstream ain't gonna treat this as a big story
3.) He's a Rolling Stone
4.) No one really cares about him like that

You're right, it is double standard.

But then again, you also have those who beat the shit outta their women and go brag about it to Barbara Walters(Sean Connery) but instead, they get tapped on the shoulder shrug

But its more of a standard on the level of what people care about and when they do. If theres a club shooting, they care if its a celebrity, if there is a drunk driving accident they care if its a celebrity etc...

But its human nature, if a bomb kills 500 people in Hong Kong we dont care, if the Bomb blows up and kills people at a club they we go to and know then we care.

The youngsters may know Mick Jagger and/or Keith Richards, but they would not know anything about Ronnie Wood.

This is scarrily like my thread on Chris Brown.

My point was that mass media is working it's old tricks. So no one cares about Ron Wood like that. The fact is he still beat his young girlfriends ass, no one cares and his face image isn't a "symbol" of domestic violence. Intentional or not it's still a way to basically say it's more important what Chris Brown is rather then what he did and it gets ingrained in the culture.

yeahthat

There's also a couple other reasons: Ron Wood is a background member of the Rolling Stones and is nearing retirement age, and the Stones haven't beet relevant in popular music since the early 1990's. Chris Brown and Rihanna were one of the most popular pop music couples at the time of that incident, and both of them were topping the charts. The other reason is that Ron Wood is British, so he's not going to draw the interest of TMZ, Perez Hilton, or any of the online gossip sites.

This also reminds me of the time back in the late 1980's, early 1990's when another then-member of the Stones, Bill Wyman, who was in his 50's at the time, was dating an underaged teen girl. This was a huge issue back in Britain at the time, but it only drew a tepid response here in the USA.

But like i posted when this whole CB thing went down, no one ever talks about how Rick James beat his women, James Brown beat many women, its very rare you even see a thread about what a scumbag Ike Turner was. And where is the thread on how Vince Neil once punched a groupie in the face on camera in the 80s...so its got nothing to do with media, its us and how selective we are

Its both and then its neither, if that makes sense. Its media to a certain extent, and im not talking "media" like we knew in say the 80's, that term MEDIA oringated then, but now its something uglier, i mean TMZ is the leading "news" network, thats scary, CNN does a week on the balloon boy? And now CNN is doing weeks on this whole "Facebook" reality couple that got into the white house, not a relevant issue, if they had a weapon than its an issue. But its more than race or celebrity at times, its more of female and male. Lets face it, if it wasnt for females there would be no "industry", because they sell it, and we use them to sell it, and yet we DO NOT champion the causes for them. Also a story like TIGER WOODS, ok, he has this hot model wife and he's going after waitresses and chicks in clubs on the side, and the SCARY thing, he is now looked at as being a "player" to younger males, however if this was say Jennifer Lopez and she was screwing some younger dudes on the side, she wouldnt be a "player" she'd be called a ho everywhere.

There have been threads about James Brown, Ike Turner and Rick James.

Ronnie Woods is a scumbag motherfucker for doing this. He is more of a scumbag for his affinity for young girls.

it has nothing to do with race.

Ronnie Wood didn't beat his wife in public, with paparazzi following him, and his wife isn't a world famous Pop Star.

If Chris Brown's girlfriend hadn't have been more famous than him, nobody would care.

If Chris Brown had a bad boy image, nobody would care. Nobody gave a fuck when Eminem beat up women in the past and he's way more famous than Chris.

But Chris had a wholesome pop clean-cut image, and so this incident shattered that mystique. He wasn't the person that he had led people to believe he was, which is why it was a big deal. If he had a bad boy image from the start, and his girlfriend was not also famous and loved, this wouldn't have got a single headline.

Keith will hem him up and whip his a** for leaving Jo and Mick will take him out of the partnership and make him a salaried player again.

Did somebody seriously say BeBe Winans? The dude's situation was so damn low profile that Oprah didn't know about it till people called her out on the double standard. That's the only reason he didn't get a break...if not for that, nobody would have gave a damn nor did they give a damn aout BeBe Winans...period. lol

Wasn't Ronnie Wood's arrested in England on the suspicion of domestic abuse. So, he's a British citizen right?

Correct my if I'm wrong (our friends across the pond) British PD aren't allowed to comment any further nor will they release any more details beyond that he was arrested on the suspicion of domestic battery. Even if this would have been someone like Judd, Jude or whatever his name is.... was accused of beating a women up.

Do you really think the U.S. press would cover this story? I think not. In a country that so self-centered... where many think after you leave our shores, there's nothing but water. neutral

I don't think its a race thing, if that's what's being implied. Fact is, no one cares about Ron Wood -- much less his unnamed girlfriend -- these days. Heck, I'd wager not many people under 40 know who he is.

That's a fact that people have forgotten. Ike was actually revived in some way until "I, Tina". Then when the "What's Love" movie came out, his credibility was about shot.
