Although she's obviously a lovely woman, her being #1 is everything that's wrong with the music industry today. We have these quick hit artists who won't have any long term career that come from reality shows and the publicity driven media, who don't write any of their own songs.
It really depresses me.

As much as I agree with you I take exception with Boyle because she is the exact type of artist that would have thrived in previous decades. She kept up her craft (which isn't songwriting or entertaining but her voice). I don't consider her part of the Reality Brigade...the Clay Atkins, Adam Lamberts, Fantasias and Josh Stones...this woman has actually lived a life and you can hear that in her voice.

Well, are 60 year olds second class citizens or something?

Yes. Gets worse as they hit their 70s and start to smell of piss.

rolleyes it's hardly something to get depressed about, it's something of a modern miracle that this somewhat fat, frumpy, unnatractive older lady is doing what she is. She has a voice, won't be around too long and will make millions for her retirement years.

In a world that's so image driven, i think it's kind of a lovely story truth be told. Good luck to her.

I agree. I bought her album (and I'm not 60). The production sucks but I still love her cover of "Wild Horses."

Another week, another estimated half-million plus copies sold (661K). This woman's debut is a label's dream realized.

According to new figures released by Soundscan, her debut sold an incredible 701,000 copies in its first week. The question is: does the album have staying power and does she have longevity as an artist?

People who buy her CD are very old, white and rich...

Her success is nothing but logical... Her fans don't use internet, don't download music for free, and strongly identify to her...

When they see her, they see someone that looks like them who can sing like an angel...

I think that's cool...

nod she ain't for me but i give her credit. Now maybe the labels will take a look at all these icons (who are being forced to create their own labels) and start offering marketing deals that will dust them off and give them the exposure they have earned and deserved.
