I disagree, just because critics and many others compare him to Marvin Gaye doesn't mean they're clueless about Marvin's music. R. Kelly is one of the only artists out that people can dub a "Soul man". A name given to artists like Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway and many others. But the similarities are there. Both R. and Marvin Gaye grew up from a rough background with the influence of the black church and they evoke/d that in their music. And I don't fully agree that R.'s music is just disposable music. He's brilliant marketing artist because he changes his sound to fit with today's listeners. That's the only way he can sell or any artist for that matter. After all, he's a POPULAR R&B artist so it's a must. But when he's on his game, he's one hell of an R&B artist (Chocolate Factory, His self-titled album, 12- play, etc.)

Exactly! A bunch of plastic bullshit.

Hey, I like some of his music too nod But being a rough background's offspring does not make you a "New Marvin Gaye" lol

Its the saaaaame thing when they said that Alicia Keys was the "New Roberta Flack" when she 1st came up nuts Reason? She plays the piano lol

*curls up in a ball and starts rocking back and forth*

I think that's what pisses me off sometimes with him because he's tries to sound like everybody else and he really doesn't have to , but I guess he has to change with the times

I didn't mean just because he came from a rough background that makes him the "New Marvin Gaye". I meant that both are are products of the black church and rough backgrounds and it shows in their music. For example, when I listen to Donny Hathaway's music, I can hear his pain. The same can be said most of R. Kelly's music. R. Kelly is the only R&B of this generation that comes close to what the R&B greats have done. Though I do agree with midiscover, Marvin Gaye is Marvin Gaye and R. Kelly is R. Kelly. No one can do them like they could/can. The similarties are just hard to ignore.

Hell I can, problem is Robert tries too hard that you think Marvin, Sam, Aaron Hall, Charlie Wilson, Curtis Mayfield, Donny, Stevie, etc. lol But then again I wouldn't compare them tho.

Oh! Don't forget David Ruffin too!

He does make it obvious when he's giving a nod to his influences. R. does have his own style but it's hard to notice since he's too busy making music to appeal to today's listeners disbelief
