Two good songs on the whole album - "Rude Boy" and "Te Amo", both of which were produced by Stargate.

The rest of the album sucks big time, and why the hell is Rihanna jumping on the dubstep bandwagon? Dubstep is garbage.

Rude Boy, Photographs and Mad House are my favs. Mad House shopuld have been its own song with her talking really scary and sceraming...but NOOOO just ruined a good moment.

my review on Straight Jacket Funk Affair blog I started
Rihanna's new album Rated R shows her in a dark progression from her third most successful album to date "Good Girl Gone Bad". The album begins like a horror movie about to happen, like a "Thriller" prologue with Mad House, a track that could have been streched longer as unfortunatley is one of the more intresting experimental tracks.
Rihanna tires to come off "Hard" with Jeezy and comes up a bit short on unpredictability, same goes with a track like G4L which sound as if it could have been better suited for soemone like Ciara. However some tracks sound better when she is vulnerable..."Stupid In Love "Te Amo" "Cold Case Love" recalls emotion.
Not to say her upbeat songs are not good, they just don't suit her like they did on pervious said album. Photographs is simmered down only by Will.i.am's weak vocal and should have stayed behind the scene. Rockstar seems contrived to come off with some guitar flair but it feels forced. However Rude Boy works as a bad girl-hit-me tune with some nice drum programming. The album as a whole though is a bit schizo and comes off undirected. *** of 5.

I finally sampled it and I don't like it at all. It sounds very unpleasant. Maybe about 2 or 3 songs sound ok, but not all that. Even though I think it's cool she tried something different, I'm not feeling it. Good Girl Gone Bad was her best album.

Let's see, new "ballad" (actually just drags) about offing oneself.

It's not about that. Google the definition of "russian roulette" and actually LISTEN to the lyrics.

I know what Russian roulette is! The lyrics are open to interpretation but sometimes people kill themselves playing that game.

Point is: UGH! - What a shitty song compared to "S.O.S." or "Don't Stop The Music"

THIS. I just heard it last night (listening to it one track at a time lol) and it's fantastic. I bet they'll be too scared to release it, she can release a song about possibly getting shot but not about a guy "getting it up".

I love Rockstar 101 as well, although Slash should've done a solo.

S.O.S got old quick. DSTM is a classic yes, but I love Rihanna's vocals on RR, especially the last few choruses. I bet no one hearing Unfaithful a few years ago thought she could pull those vocals off!

Cassie has that option on lockdown, and as gorgeous as I think Rihanna is, I have to give Cassie the edge on that wink

I'm actually listening to the album and the more I listen, it really is not so terrible. I feel I got my $4 worth!

after giving it a listen the last couple days, I can officially say: I fallinluv this damn CD. I don't care how it does on the charts or what anyone thinks, I love this here CD. There are two I don't care for "G4L" and "Wait Your Turn" (WYT should have been the intro and "Mad House" should have been a full length song), but I enjoy the rest. I think this CD is miles ahead of "Good Girl Gone Bad" in terms of lyrics, cohesiveness and song interpretation especially. There aren't as many obvious singles, but "Rude Boy" and "Fire Bomb" would both do well on the charts.
I was not surprised to see "Rated R" get the best reviews of her career, either: http://www.metacritic.com...=rated%20r

Stand outs: "The Last Song" grew on me...something about it is haunting (I would love to hear Prince's take on this!) Also, I think "Fire Bomb" is brilliant.

SOS is considered a great song? I still can't stand it and I now like Rihanna. I couldnt help but compare it to Tainted Love everytime the music started, and the melody of SOS is just not as good as that song. Its pretty damn boring actually. I wish she could wipe out everything before Umbrella like Janet did with her first two albums.

I have to admit...."Rude Boy" is on fire. I've been blasting that track today. However, lol, that's only because it sounds like it could be an outtake from Beyonce's "Dangerously In Love" era. lol I do not hear Rihanna's voice in the song, I hear Beyonce, lol. thumbs up!

"Te Amo" is the only other track that's saying anything, but just melodically. It sounds like another Ne-yo/Stargate production. The song has a catchy refrain and all, but the verses and overall theme of the song....well, I can't imagine a video for it.

At first, I thought "Cold Case Love" was a good one, but it became old quickly, and it sounds like I've heard that same melody in several other songs before.

And the rest: bored2

Edit: Oh, and I didn't purchase the album, lol.
