Mariah in '91

It's amazing to me how effortlessly she hit all the notes and just could sing like that as if it were the easiest thing in the world. It's a shame she doesn't have that voice anymore, it would have been powerful to hear live.

Because you can see how she struggles with it and she does hit the wrong notes every once in while, no that often, but it happens. You hardly see her doing those super high notes anymore. Plus her voice isn't that strong anymore either.
I have seen her live and she gave a great performance but she definitely didn't sound like back in the day.

she did some high notes last week, so maybe her juicy ass still got some petrol left in it.

Yes, Mariah was a very gifted vocalist but It seems like she didn't know what to do with her voice.

Well, she has not totally lost it, no. Just too much unfortunately.
But who knows, maybe it's not too late...

Yeah she does sometimes, but she might have done a few of them... She did sound better on the X factor than she has in a while so maybe she managed to do some well needed resting and care taking of her voice.

She makes it so obvious too. Just like on Oprah lol
I wonder why she didn't take care of her voice. She could've been one of the greats.

I'm just saying if she took good rest of the high note then why does everything else sounds like she's singing to a chalkboard? confused

Well, she is still considered as one of the greats, at least among people like me... But I know what you mean. Maybe she just doesn't have enough self discipline.

Yea, I know when she was under Tommy Mottolla's control her voice was great. Now it's gone. Not even Whitney's voice is that bad.

That man, even though she did superb music when she was with him, was obviously more than wrong for her mentally. I wonder if she would have been more careful with her voice if she hadn't had that man in her life or if he was the only thing that forced her to control herself.

Yea, he's the one that made her all chart crazy. I'm not a fan or anything but I heard that she smoked before she met him and he made her stop because it was bad for her voice. I don't think she would've been careful because she's still drinking lol I think she also damaged it by going up and down the scale. She lacked control.

Her early performances are gems. Not just because of the voice, or the way she looked, there was something about her that was just charming and sincere.

After 1996 we all know how things went but I really enjoyed her vocals and image all the way up till 1998. This I think is her last good record:

I think she's a funny girl now, I bet she's a kind person, but she comes across as highly insecure and, well, not very eloquent.

Her best years are behind her. Voices in the normal range, will fall victim to wear and tear and the elements. Singers such as her, I believe suffer more. You can see her struggling to hit those notes that she once hit, with ease.

Mariah's version of the Brenda K. Starr classic was pure ace! nod This was between the Butterfly-era & the Rainbow-era of her career. It's fair to say that her most mature work was every album BEFORE the Rainbow album. lol

Paul Mooney said it best about Nippy - She's the classic All-American dream gone bad.

Everytime I hear both of them nowadays live though, I cringe hoping they won't fuck this up untill they finish. 9 outta 10, they do disbelief
