I love "Can't Stop".It's one of Rick's best "pop" songs and should have been a much bigger hit.

It's one of the few songs that I listen to from that album. "Can't Stop", "Melody Make Me Wanna Dance", "Rock And Roll Control", and "Glow".

It was too cheesy for me. It sounded like a leftover that didn't
make the cut for the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack.

I did good to remember the ones I listed. I don't usually play many Rick James songs very often after the "Cold Blooded" album. Every blue moon I may play a few songs from "Glow", "The Flag", and "Wonderful" albums but I don't think I've ever just sat down and listened to those albums in their entirety except for the time that I recorded them onto CDs. lol

'The Flag' is synth heavy, but it is NOT a disaster, its actually one of my favorite albums by him. Not one of his best albums, but a favorite none the less. It has some great songs on it.

And I do think that he didn't live up to concept of the album. Had he ben sober, this album could've been a masterpiece. But still good none the less.

I'll have to pull it out and listen to it again.Last time I gave it a spin,I thought all of the songs sound alike.Everything has that synth-heavy,drum-machined sound. It's like he took the basic sound of "Party All The Time" and expanded it into a whole album shrug He was running low on inspiration at this point, plus he was feuding with Motown. The drugs didn't help, either.

The Flag album wasn't classic by no means but it had it was still
cool 2 me. Sweet and Sexy Thang had the classic Rick sound, Save it for Me,
Free to be Me, R U Experienced, and Slow and Easy was an excellent ballad.
Wonderful on the other hand was a yawner for me except for a few songs.

Agreed with Soul & Phunk on this.....

Even now, if you listen to Rick's earlier stuff ("Come Get It" thru "Glow")...and the 3 Stone City Albums.....there's no comparison when you get to "The Flag" & "Wonderful".

I'd spin em again, but already know my reaction: Sadness. Rick was so far gone on drugs...he was phoning it in to pay his dealers. Gone was the passion, groove, horns....it's just sad.

I can't listen to those anymore.

Now....."Love Gun"(album).....THAT'S fuckin Rick James & the boys.....

I can't play "The Flag" or "Wonderful" either.
I remember when I got "The Flag". I just sat there like whofarted I don't think I've played "Wonderful" more than 3 times. disbelief

Juat outta respect for Rick.....I spoke of "Fire It Up"....not Love Gun, the track.

Yeah .....same here. I remember buying "The Flag" & just about crying at how he'd fallen (before even hearing the album).
