Mike was one of the biggest selling artist of the year this year. Old material yes but sold nonetheless. I don't agree with it either, but hey, what are you gonna do?
Although the Grammy's are "supposed" to be based on artistic merit and quality, the AMA's are soley based on sales and radio play. We all know that the Grammy's are full of shit too, due to politics and such, but at least they try to hide their shit more. For instance, Lady GaGa should have won the breakthrough artist of the year hands down, but all the country music lovers and rednecks around the country banded together and made sure their favorite won.Travesty. Gaga fans probably took it for granted too that she would win and didn't vote.

She looked beautiful without a doubt but she also looked a little slow and tired. Obviously people can have different opinions about the performance. As for Michael, he's dead so I wasn't expecting anything from him. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

The AMA's are based on record sales. Nowhere does it state, the records have to be new! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

wow, just watched Janet's performance and to me it was the best one of the night. i was severely underwhelmed by the rest of them. "slow and lethargic" i didn't think so, an age appropriate performance IMO

I knew I shouldn't stay up to watch this crap, but I did.
Pathetic. I'm so glad I don't spend my money on crappy music from these artists who truly have such little natural talent. Green Day were good because they are musicians and can sing and play anywhere. Whitney may not have the voice she once did, but she can sing better than any of those chicks last night who were mostly lip-syncing. Go Whitney! I thought Janet's performance was ok. Not terrible as some say, but she was not singing either. Her moves are stale and lame. The rest of the show sucked, just like I knew it would.

Mary is 38 and her voice still sounds good (her voice actually sounds better to me every year) and she finally looks classy too! And if she had busted up on the stage during jay Z's performance that shit would have been hot as hell!!!

I understand people's complaints about Michael winning, but since the AMA's are based on airplay and album sales and Michael was a big seller this year (yes due to his death, but he was a big seller regardless), that's why he was nominted and won. I honestly think if it was someone else who had won for an older album like Stevie or The Beatles or someone people would not be complaining as much. I think it's just because it's Michael some are complaining, but oh well. It's one year. He'll never be nominated again as a current artist, so I don't see what all the complaining is about. It wont happen again. When did the AMA's become such a big deal anyway? No one outside of America really watches that show anyway, it's not like winning a Grammy or something. As for Janet, I really don't see how any Janet fan who has followed her career and seen her other performances can seriously say that her performance last night was one of her best. It really wasn't. She looked tired and it's becoming the same ole, same ole' with her. She is reminding me of how MJ used to do the same moves for years and for the longest I thought people were just being "haters" when they said he wasn't doing anything new, but then when I actually looked at it, I realized they had a point. It's not exciting to see someone doing the same routines the same way over and over especially if you've been following their career for years. It's getting stale now. No, Janet certainly wasn't terrible at all last night, but not great either. She was okay. I really hope this isn't a sign of things to come in the future whenever she releases new material. "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ

No, Janet certainly wasn't terrible at all last night, but not great either. She was okay. I really hope this isn't a sign of things to come in the future whenever she releases new material. I'm looking at it differently- her performance was a reflection of her past years and I think it was orchestrated exactly like she wanted it- this year was filled with pain and for her to take the stage and "turn new tricks" and "try to outshine her past self" would not have been appropriate. Sure she could have hired new choreograhers and had Pyro and back flips- all that ish... Then people would be saying she's using this tragedy to propel her career. Then people would say she's trying to "channel her dead brother" and sell records. Then people would say she's a "This is it" wannabe. What she did was classic and necessary- i'm sure that if she wasn't under contract- she would not have even been on stage. I don't know what all the disappointment is for- her fans need to be grateful she's still alive and hold on to what they got- let her work thru her grief- y'all some trips...lets see how you'll react if your life was turned upside down and your job was in the spotlight. LOVE HARD.

co-signed. Janet, out of any one in that family, never needed or used Michael to sustain her career or her bank. If anything, in recent years, Michael turned to Janet! And you can tell she is truly heartbroken. Also I loved the Together Again tribute! I think she did well. I've lost a sibling....it's really hard, especially if they were your best friend and especially if it's something you felt you could have prevented or helped them.

ok so I didn't watch the whole show, and I'm WAY outta the loop on who's who in the music scene ...BUT. I did see Alicia Keys and Jay Z. and I gotta say...I really have ZERO jay z experience...but WOW! that was good. I was reading all these posts to read the RAVES about that performance and ...well, there isn't any. I thought he and alicia blew the roof off the place!!
I saw Mary J's performance that was hot! and Lady Gaga...holy shit! I'd only ever heard of her...I've never actually heard any of her songs but that was awesome! she's really got talent! I thought the black eyed peas performance started off a little slow but was really pretty good by the end. I thought whitney's performace was great too...I thought her voice was fine. I just watched Janet's performance on youtube....ugh!she sux. the one thing I was really digging about these AMA's was all of the LIVE singing....I was like finally the days of lip synching are over! then came jlo.. she wasn't singing. "not a fan" yeah...ok

How did he have material to perform before the winner? I'm genuinely curious as I don't watch AI. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off
