Soul Train Awards [Charlie Wilson of the Gap Band!]

I have no problem with Charlie Wilson, but why is he getting honored and not the Gap Band as a whole.

No offense to Charlie, but what has he done as a solo artist that deserves an honorary award over The Gap Band?

I ain't mad.

If Uncle Charlie is getting honored,,,,that will put the focus on the band.

Thats like asking why did Prince get honored for the HOF,,,,,without the Revolution shrug

I dig where you coming from though.

I was thinking the same thing. biggrin However, considering how long he has been around and how music has dramatically changed since the 80's, I think it's amazing that, as a solo artist, he continues to score hits in the upper registers of the Billboard R&B charts and I think his last couple of albums were Top 10 on the R&B charts.

Yeah I understand what u mean but, Prince was able 2 do his thing without The Revolution. Even as an artist with The Revolution or The NPG, Prince has been able 2 do his thing with out them.

I don't see why he wouldn't get honored without the Gap Band. The man can still sing his ass off and his singles off his last album weren't bad at all.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

This would be like honoring Ronald Isley and not the Isley Brothers. Yeah, Ron has had some success, but ... the ISLEY BROTHERS.

This could work for other artist like Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Diana Ross, ect ... but not fore some.

You'd never see Morris Day, Howard Hewitt getting honored on their own (at least not for their music.)

Don't forget Patti LaBelle & Chaka Khan on the "it works for other artists" category. Mr. Wilson hasn't done a lot for himself to get solely honored at all.

Howard Hewitt needs an Unsung episode on himself alone. That man's career should had been bigger than what it was.

Right. Prince has always been a solo artist with different backing bands so it's not the same thing.

Charlie's solo work ain't on the same level of the Gap Band.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
