This was Stacey's first and only #1 song. She immediately left the music business afterwards. I think she's a traveling evangalist or something like that.

For whatever reason, the public never fully embraced Stacey. She was never well known, despite some pretty decent material.

She was well known to the R&B community though. 2 albums in the R&B top 10. 3 Top 40 pop singles, and 13 Top 40 R&B singles (6 being in the top 10)

perfect example for an episode of Unsung lol

Nope. Melba Moore (the one people around here pretend like they never heard of biggrin ) was way more popular than Stacey.

Yeah Melba Moore had a lot of disco hits. I'm surprised people act weird when you mention her name! lol

Yeah, she was well known in the R&B community. If you listened to R&B radio in the 80s,you are familiar with Stacy. She had a pretty good run that lasted the entire decade. In 1981,she opened for the Jacksons. She never really crossed over though. Her 1983 single "Million Dollar Babe" should have been the song that introduced her to pop audiences, but it flopped.

Really? That's gonna be a good one to see. They can talk about her engagement to Johnny Gill, her 1985 album 'I'm Not The Same Girl' (a weak album that even she didn't like),and turning her back on R&B to concentrate on gospel.

I was really surprised when Wounded Bird reissued that particular album on CD a while ago. I was glad because I always loved the title track and was pissed that it was not included on her 'Best Of' package. But, you're right. The rest of that album was really weak.

Stacy described those songs as "Whitney Houston rejects" lol That album stalled her career temporarily.Thankfully, she rebounded the next year with the huge hit "Nail It To The Wall".
