I remember this from my childhood, I LOVED this song... Well, maybe no one's heard of it, but it got to No.2 in the UK charts in 1982, so someone out there, apart from me, must like it??!!

I love it. When I first heard it in the summer of 1982, I had never heard of Fat Larry's Band. At the time, I thought it was Leroy from the TV show "Fame" because the vocalist sounds just like him. Andy is a four letter word.

I knew there would be SOMEONE! Leroy... wow that brings back a few memories too, like "I wanna live forever..." blasting out from my record player 100 times a day as I did balletic leaps across the bedroom floor But 'Zoom' - I literally swooned to....

I heard this song before but wasn't hip to who did it. But I thought it was a cool track. Good pick. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him." http://ccoshea19.googlepa...ssanctuary http://ccoshea19.googlepages.com

Thanks It seems they were more successful in the UK, at least with this song! And then 'Fat Larry' died... Think this might have been more known in the US.. From Wikipedia Formed by drummer and vocalist "Fat" Larry James (August 2, 1949 - December 5, 1987) in 1977, band members included trumpeter/flutist Art Capehart, saxophonist Doug Jones, trombonist/alto saxophonist Jimmy Lee, guitarist Ted Cohen, percussionist and lead singer Darryl Grant, bassist Larry La Bes, and keyboardist Erskine Williams.[1] The band's biggest hits were "Act Like You Know" (1982) (which later appeared on the soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City) and "Zoom", which reached number two in the UK Singles Chart in October 1982. They had three other hits in the UK: "Center City", "Boogie Town" and "Looking for Love Tonight".[2] Their best known song aesthetically was "Act Like You Know," a 1982 tune with a surging bass line and simple but catchy lyric refrain. James also played with The Delfonics and Blue Magic, and managed the group Slick.[3] James died on December 5, 1987,[4] and the band folded. The opening drum break from "Down on the Avenue", from the band's first album, Feel It (Stax 1977), has been sampled by many hip hop artists, including N.W.A (Straight Outta Compton), Ice-T, Jungle Brothers and Run-D.M.C. [Edited 11/14/09 14:45pm] I never heard "Act Like You Know" until Finess had it in one of his mixes a few years ago. "Zoom" was very popular in my area though. I think a lot of people have heard it but don't remember it because it's one of those songs that once it went out of style, radio rarely ever played it again. And once monopolized radio took over in the 1990s, they only played particular songs over and over and over again, usually songs that were huge hits. I bought the album a few years ago and "Traffic Stopper" became my favorite song on the album from the first moment I heard it.... Andy is a four letter word.

Yep I've never forgotten that song, although as VainAndy says it's not the kind of thing you hear played on the radio ...or anywhere else... !
