Well, I can certainly understand why some people do NOT like Heavy Metal - it's too aggressive or abrasive or fast for them, or they don't like the lyrical content. All of these are valid reasons and I respect that point of view.
I like a lot of different styles of guitar music, from The Beatles to The Smiths to The Jam to Blues right through to Heavy Metal, and I always find the Metal artists are the ones I find hardest to explain to my friends who don't like them. So what IS it about a mild(ish)-mannered 30-something English guy that makes him like stuff like Slayer, Slipknot, Soulfly, Down, Anthrax, Pantera...? Partly the extremely high level of musicianship that is found in the Metal world, for sure, partly a kind of vicarious way of getting stress and tension out? I dunno. Maybe I just like the sound of it! This is not an exit | |
