Exactly. I've been to Egypt twice and I never heard anyone claiming that the Pharaos or the people in ancient Egypt were arabs. I am sure there must be some stupid ethnocentric school of thought who teaches that but it's probably marginal (just like the school of thought which teaches that Homer was a Turk and Alexander the Great was a Slav). I have heard much more the view that the Assyrians were Arabs (which also is not true) than anything about the Egyptians.
That said, I am not aware of any scientific proof that the ancient Egyptians were blacks, Sure, blacks were used as slaves in that period (as were Jews) but every image we have from that time shows the Pharaos as whites and common Egyptians as mixed people (some people black, some people white). I might be wrong on this though.
I would also like to say that there is no conflict between being arab and being black. The two are not comparable. Being arab is a culture or an ethnicity and being black is a race. In fact muslim religion during the centuries has treated minorities much better than christianity did although they were abuses of course.
Lastly, even though I don't know what really happened with Beyonce in Egypt, being black does not justify being ignorant (if that's what she was). And a white, arab, muslim, black or any person has every right to criticize any celebrity irrelevant of her colour or ethnicity and he has every right to be wrong and change his mind too.

WTH???? Did you mean to type that every image that you have seen shows the Pharoahs as white confuse I had to come out of lurk mode just to ask you what the hell photos have you been looking at.....drawings by Europeans or some shit???

These are not slaves....they are Pharoahs.

And there is actually no record of "Jews" being in Egypt except for in the Bible.

talk about ignorance....

Anyhoo, back on topic. Howass is a racist and I'm sure that his opinion of women, esp American Black women is not the best. That being said, if Beyonce is a product of the k-12 American educational system, she probably has no clue about ancient Egypt.

Okey. That's a nice way of scoring easy points. First of all by the term 'white' I was refering to the Middle Eastern/Mediterenean race (which by the way could be the colour depicted in the first two sculptures). The argument was between being arab and being black (which doesn't make sense anyway) so clearly by the term white I was thinking about arabic-like racial characteristics. I was not implying white as scandinavians but white as palestinians, tunesians etc. If u consider that race black, then it is a matter of definitions and we have an agreement.
The sculptures u provided do suggest they were black. However there are also those:

http://www.digital.librar...ohs-3.html

If you look at those pictures u will see a mix of colours. You will notice that under Egyptian boy, the boy clearly looks Mediterenean and not black,
http://www.digital.librar...ohs/98.gif
Under Egyptian Lady the lady looks white and not black.
http://www.digital.librar...hs/100.gif
So the fact that the pharaos were depicted as black on the sculptures does not give any real indication of the ancient Egyptians' colour. It is much more possible that their colour was close to that of today's Egyptians (which for the majority is clearly Mediterenean/Middle Eastern and not black)

And I am quitting this discussion because discussing people's colour does sound racist to me. Ancient Egypt was a great civilization, so is the arabic civilization and that doesn't depend on the colour of anyone's skin. The whole conversation started from someone's indirect assertion that Beyonce has the right to be ignorant towards the egyptiologist because she is black and the egyptiologist is arab (since the arabs somehow took advantage of the ancient black Egyptian civilization).Well if that doesn't sound absurd and racist then I don't know what does.

Oh and something else. I am from a country which is next to Egypt (but it is not arabic). My colour is similar to the arabic colour. But we are not considering ourselves as black. We usually write caucasians or Mediterenean (as most arabs do as well). So when we see those sculptures they do not strike us as black (black as much different from our colour). Now if you come from a country with a historic black/white divide you will see it differently of course.

eek You do mean the immigrants right?

Becuase the history of Arabs descendants is pretty well documented in the Quran and the old books as the people of "al-jazeerah al-arabiyah"(Arab Island, which is wildly known as Saudia Arabia and all of the countries around it before they were bordered).

It means they know what they want to know. the same way american educators of european descent will teach a history that favors their people and contributions, so do arab egyptologists try and teach that ancient egypt was arab. I've seen this guy's tapes.

Sure you can pick up a book (when you become an adult) but from pre-school on to the twelth grade one might not receive an accurate account of the world's civilizations and how they came to be. I don't give a fuck if Egypt is run by arabs anymore than I gave a fuck when South Africa was run by the dutch. Poor education is poor education plain and simple. This dude had some nerve calling Bey stupid just cuz she probably didn't slop on his every word.

Do you other nonsensical bullshit to feed us with??? Have you ever been to Egypt, have you ever spoke to an egyptian or an arab. I´ve been there several times and we will not hear any egyptian of arab descent(if that makes any sense) say that the pharoahs were arabs???

Funny that you claim to have been to Egypt several times but you can't spell pharaoh correctly.

You can take your comment and stick it where the sun don't shine and the rain don't fall. So you've been on a tour to Egypt, so fucking what, that makes you an expert on ancient Egypt now? You've taken some pics and had a guide and now you know so much? Well whoopty doo dah! Maybe you can go and educate Bey. Next time you go, try mingling with the real Arabs and not those fake ass European educated ones with money to burn. Try mingling with the dark skinned ones that happen to be poor and do menial labor for a living, then maybe you can talk about what an Arab will say about the pharaohs.

And p.s. My aunt is married to an Egyptian so I think that trumps your travel tour. rolleyes

Well you just keep drinking that lousy flavor of pure nonsense if you think that Zahi Hawass doesn't have a point about an artist that doesn't even know much about her African (READ: black) History. rolleyes

its not that they're expecting any average person to know, its just if you have so much an interest in Egypt that you go all the way there to have a picture taken then at nearly 30 you should know something

its like when some actors don't study the person they are playing when its based on a real person
money money money

nod Thank You! Exactly! It's not like Egypt is right down the street from her and Jay-Z's New York City condo. All I know is that if they ever do a remake of 'Cleopatra' or a film on Nefertiti, her ass had better not be in it or even try out for it unless she takes some initiative to learn about these women and the history of Egypt. What the hell am I sayin'?!?!? If she gets cast as either of these women, I'm going to find the person who casted her and put a brick through their windshield. I'm sorry, but hellz no. Beyonce couldn't do justice to either of these women in a film so no; just no. She couldn't play their royal hair pieces well. I didn't learn much about Egypt in school and I never went to public school, but I used some self-motivation and educated myself on many aspects of the Old World. I hate when people blame any school system because some mofos choose not to open a book outside of the classroom. If people aren't willing to educate themselves, that's really on them and no one else in the end. There are lots of people who are self-educated and are just as smart (sometimes smarter) than people who go to the best schools. It's about self-motivation and if your IQ is bigger than your shoe size, self-motivation should be an easy thing. Besides, I don't think Beyonce even finished actual high school...she was tutored so you really can't blame the public school system for her lack of knowledge.

1. She wasn't married at the time.

2. Why can't she be married and sexual?

(not saying I agree with the song's message but still...what's marriage got to do with it?)

i didnt say she was married at the time
shes been taking her clothes off in recent videos while shes still married
and if youve heard the song youll see i wasnt ridiculing her for being sexual
im ridiculing her for being a hypocrite

lol Beyonce has been a hypocrite since she made a comment about Christina Aguilera's image during the 'Stripped' era. In fact, it was in regards to the 'Dirrty' video. She said something like, 'I wouldn't dress and act like that because I don't believe it's lady-like'...and then she did the 'Baby Boy' video where she was moaning and rolling around half-naked on a bed singing over-sexed lyrics. I remember her saying this because Jessica Simpson also made a hypocritical comment at the same time about how she was a "Christian woman and would never do anything like the 'Dirrty' video"...then her ass did that video where she was humping the car in a pair of daisy dukes and getting sexual with a water hose. I don't care if someone's against someone's actions and chooses to speak their opinion on the matter, but don't let me catch that person ever doing the thing they just bad mouthed someone else for because that hypocritical bullshit don't fly with me at all.
