The Cats!!!! We had a debate here a while ago about the Baddest Horn sections---Fred n' Maceo (with JB and P-Funk), The Phoenix Horns (EWF), Chicago,etc...For me, T.O.P. certainly had the fullest sound...and Doc with the Baritone sax just kills me!! ... Indeed... ... I'll nominate Kool & The Gang in the Small Section category. And Sly's horns in the Smaller Section category. Didn't Prince sample/steal the drum pattern from "Squib Cakes" for a song or two?

Not sure if he sampled it, but the loop that he and Morris used for Release It is definitely Squib Cakes (whether it's recreated or sampled).

Haven't listened to Release It in quite some time but I seem to remember the sound and inflections in the drum track were way too close for a recreation. I remember Prince mentions Tower of Power's "Sqib Cakes" by name in the unreleased tune, "Schoolyard"... .. " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout
