I'll buy metal box for sure. I do have a cd copy of second edition kicking around, but that's just going to go back to the 2nd hand bin where I originally found it.
I like the looks of that boxed set - it nicely emphasizes the early stuff & downplays the spotty later material - but if it's entirely composed of demos/remixes/alternate takes then I'll probably give it a pass. I actually don't have any PiL on disc except for Metal Box & I'd like to get a good comp or boxed set, but not one of alternate takes.

Martin Atkins from PiL/Killing Joke/Ministry/Pigface is a good friend of mine.
I'm meeting up with him next month. When I saw him a couple of months ago he was telling me about some rare PiL material that he had come across, including John Lydon covering "Twist & Shout" in an ironic fashion. He said he's going to put it out on his website. Can't say I'm too impressed with this PiL reunion though, since it isn't a PiL reunion at all. Martin isn't playing with them and neither are Jah Wobble or Keith Levene. So it isn't PiL at all really. It's just John Lydon and some hired hands singing old PiL songs. The bass player for this tour is the guy who was playing on the Spice Girls tour recently!!!! |

I'd think all the alternate versions are listed in the article and the majority of the tracks are the already released studio mixes. Like you, that is what I'd prefer anyway.

Ah, that does make sense. It's unlikely they'd take the time to piece together a box set made up solely of out-takes. It'll be nice to have that material on disc again. I actually really like most PiL records. Flowers of Romance is pretty close to unlistenable for me and I don't think I ever heard the last record, but I think all the other ones are at least decent.

I recently got Flowers Of Romance because of its reputation of being unlistenable. I actually do like it for the most part (it gets a little tiresome towards the end). Perhaps the novelty of having such an odd record just hasn't worn out with me yet. The only other PIL album I've heard in full was 9 which I thought was nice, but not essential and eventually sold it last year.
