My stereo system, purchased in the mid 80s, primarily consists of Yamaha Natural Sound components. (internet photos)
...M-70 Amplifier (300 watts per channel, RMS) ...C-70 Preamp (parametric EQ, MM/MC) ...T-70 Tuner ...K-2000 Cassette Deck ...CD-2 CD Player ...Infinity RS-6b Speakers Just recently, I inherited my Dad's classic... ...AR-4x speakers (in the process of being refurbished). Too bad his original AR turntable... ...wasn't still around because that's what i'm missig...a quality turntable. Presently, i'm using an inexpensive Numark just to get by. But I eventually see at least a... ...Rega P1 or a Pro-Ject Debut III in my future. Unfortunately, after many years of great service, the K-2000 & CD-2 have gone onto Hi-Fi Heaven. They currently lay in state out in my garage. I've got a couple of Panasonic DVD recorders that also function as CD players. I know it's probably time for an upgrade, but I got such a great deal on the Yamaha gear (under $1000 thanks to my brother's overseas military status at the time) and the remaining components still sound great. I still have the JVC receiver I bought back around 1996 that looks similar to this....
I have a Radio Shack mixer plugged into it.... Two gemini CD players with pitch control.... Two Stanton turntables with pitch control.... A Sony cassette deck that is worn out. One deck plays fine but if I make a recording, it only records from one speaker. It's been worn out for almost a year as far as recording goes but I still keep it to listen to tapes. The picture isn't the exact one I have but it looks very similar.... A Sony CD recorder so I can record vinyl or mixes that I've made.... And over course, I have my cheap Acer computer plugged into the mixer so it will play through the stereo also..... And I still have the two Fisher speakers I bought back in 1996 and also two Sharp speakers I had from a previous stereo. I also have my DVD player and VCR plugged into the mixer also so I can watch music videos, concerts, or "Soul Train" DVDs and listen to them through the stereo rather than the TV. This is what I use for listening when I'm not listening through my Pioneer headphones on the laptop:
Amplifier/CD player/receiver: Magnat MC-1: I was lucky when I bought this last spring because while this is a really good receiver, because the brand is virtually unknown here the store had lowered the prices considerably without adjusting for the devaluation of the local currency. This means I got a 1200$ amp/receiver (typical price in online stores) for less than 300$. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that it has a tube pre-amplifier and the most solid remote control I have ever encountered. Speakers: They are bit on the cheap side compared to the receiver but I can of course upgrade them later.... I only have the two front speakers shown on the picture: Turntable: Denon turntable.... looks cool and sounds fine, especially after I started to use the Phono setting with the amp. This is something you should probably ask over at Prince: Music & More, and not here in Music: Non-Prince Anyways, [Edited 11/18/09 14:33pm] On the Org since 2005.
