I would think so "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I would think so HONEY! Not only was he open and upfront about it but he once upset record execs in the '80s when he showed up to meetings IN DRAG! He didn't give a fuck.

Now if they won't do Sylvester, they won't do Jermaine, although it would be cool to hear what Jody Watley has to say about her former bestie "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Betty Davis should've gotten an "Unsung" before Klymaxx but I don't think she was popular even in the R&B circuit. Fucking shame too. But she was too raw for radio anyways. Fuck radio.

I still say Klymaxx doesn't deserve an Unsung to begin with "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I just don't see that Klymaxx had all that much talent. To me, they were just riding on the Minneapolis sound alike wave. Plus the fact all their shit sounded alike and is annoying as hell. AND they don't sing that well. I mean it's just as bad as giving Keith Sweat, Cherrelle and Alexander O'Neal Unsungs. Whole lot of mediocre acts that fell off. Just because they fell off and had drama does NOT warrant an Unsung. And let's not forget, the roots of the decay of the music biz set in by the 80s. [Edited 11/10/09 20:25pm] You know what disappointed me about Klymaxx was that I never saw them do any solos, it was as if they were pretty girls posing with instruments, lol. Bernadette Cooper was the face of the group. She made me dig Klymaxx for a bit lol. But compared to the other "all girl band" (name starts with an 'L'), they never found their sound.

They did some great stuff pre-Lady Marmalade. Stuff a lot of the mainstream never knew about. I loved how they backed up Laura Nyro in that one album in 1971.

That was their home and and the home of some of their writers, producers, and label mates. I dug the Meeting in the Ladies album a lot. It was some bold ass funk from an all female band during that era. Love Bandit was the shit. The follow up album was not as bold but Sexy,Fab Attack, and Divas Need Love Too worked for me. Who is Betty levette? She had a big hit in 65 with this: She went from Atlantic Records to Motown to other labels and nobody really knew what to do with her...many consider her talent to be on par with Aretha butshe kept getting screwed by labels or bad timing...after decades on the scene she finally hit the mainstream with her massively acclaimed 2005 album "I've Got My One Hell To Raise" which features covers by Fiona Apple, Dolly Parton, Amiee Mann and Sinead O'Conner and was produced by Joe Henry. This, IMHO, is one of the best performances during an awards show ever. Right up their with MJ's Billie Jean, Janet's What Have You Done For Me Lately, Ricky Martin's Living La Vida Loca and Madonna's Like A Virgin. It's iconic: Space for sale...

Explain please Dionne Warwick said: I was surprised when Radio One's Cathy Hughes added my name to the list of African American artists and civil rights activists she's attacked in her vicious campaign against fairly compensating musicians for their work. Then again, since smearing African American leaders to protect her profits has become Ms. Hughes siren song, maybe I shouldn't be surprised at all. Every time we buy a CD or download a song, the artist is paid for their work. You might not know that this isn't the case when a musician's work is played on the radio. That's because corporate radio CEOs like Cathy Hughes are exploiting a legal loophole that allows them to play these artists songs without paying them for their work. Ms. Hughes is now very angry with me, other black recording artists, and civil rights leaders because we support the Performance Rights Act, which many now call the Civil Rights for Musicians Act. This bill, which was written by the Dean of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressman John Conyers, closes the legal loophole the radio corporations and CEOs are using to ensure that African American artists receive fair pay for airplay. I got to add a couple more paragraphs for peeps to see the true Ms. Hughes...owner of TVOne, the show that runs Unsung.
Dione continues: In defending her refusal to fairly compensate the artists on whose back she earns her living, Ms. Hughes now claims poverty, which is pretty amazing considering Radio One owns 54 radio stations and reaped $316 million last year alone. She even paid her own son, Radio One CEO Alfred Liggins, a $10 million bonus. Far from a struggling company, Radio One sounds more like one of those Wall Street rip off firms where executives pay themselves big bonuses while they rip us off and throw their workers in the street. If their profits and the bonuses Ms. Hughes has paid her son are any indicator, Radio One is hardly struggling. But there are small stations, especially gospel stations, in our communities that we love and that deserve our help. That's why the Civil Rights for Musicians Act protects these truly small radio stations while insisting even a big corporate radio firm like Radio One would only pay roughly what they earn off of about five commercials each day. You can begin to understand Ms. Hughes' willingness to rip off black artists when you take a look at who she attacks and the kind of company she keeps. During the last presidential campaign she repeatedly attacked Barack Obama, calling him "a dazzling deception" and implied that we supported him because black people are easily fooled. She has even supported the current chairman of the Republican Party, Michael Steele, who said he would attract more African Americans to his party by offering "fried chicken and potato salad." This is hardly a woman who is looking out for what's best for the African American community. [Edited 11/10/09 21:58pm] Space for sale...
