Doesn't there seem to be a large Black hole in the music world right now....

There seems to be very few new R&B releases over the past 6 months. Not to mention the poor quality of stuff that is released. Can somebody recommend me some under the radar good R&B out there? I don't even care if it's old. I just need some new sounds. I'm tired of listening to my jams from the 80's, 90's. I need something new and fresh.

I see it more as a large white hole and it hasn't been there for 6 months. It's been there for 15 years.

Melanie Fiona is the shit!!! Great choice, add Amerie on to this, i know peeps think she is a mainstreamer, but she is far from it IMO, new cd just out, touring with Common, the roots and Anjulie, oh by the way, add ANJULIE to that list, best new artist this year.

LOTS of great singers are still out there, Jaime, don't look for it in the corporate world because you're NOT going to find it.

I think we're in bit of a hole period for music right now, be it black or white.

For such a strong first half of the year, releases have really fizzled out, nothing I'm really loving.

You should say "in the corporate business". Like I said don't keep on looking for it in the mainstream especially if you don't like it, you're gonna be bitter, lol

I love Janelle! She did a new song for Kia facebook site. I'm digging Owl City too right now. Fun. I really like Pinks live cd. Just some of what I'm listening to, but they are on right now.

Oh my goodness, how could you forget Maxwell. His album was the hotness. Oh Maxwell, what I could do to you drool Not to mention the phenomenal Miss Chrisette Michele who brought it, but both of their albums actually sold well and debuted high so maybe that's why nobody has mentioned them. hmmm

Unfortunately current R&B seems to have become the new hip-hop of late because most 'R&B' artists have at least one hip-hop artist on the more than one track of their albums. You need to look into 'Neo Soul' (I know how much that title is hated around here, so sorry in advance to those who are offended by it lol ). 'Neo-soul seems to have become the new form of what was once called R&B. Just my twocents

My advice: do yourself a favor and check 'em out. lol I'm seeing that from most ORGers, we all complain about today's sound yet there's artists who have the sounds we're striving to hear from again. lol

Yep. biggrin You know we can get stuck in our ways.... cough, cough. Then we come to the org and "new" hot artist we think we've discovered, we learn has been cuttin' records for damn near a decade. Everybody starts asking you, "Where have you been"? Save yourself from embarrassment listen with an open mind. I'm just sayin.boxed

Since MJ is dead we had 5,5 new tracks from him.

Probably more than we would have gotten if he was still alive.

And everything else is still the same.

I think a lot of us have dementia because we would hear this song by a "hot new artist" and then when we discover that artist been around for 20 years, you're like "ugh! Where was I?" lol

I also sense too much snobbery going around in here. lol

The problem is, the artist has been in the underground for 20 years and that needs to change. Put the good ones in the mainstream and put the bullshit in the underground.

Mayer Hawthorne is the shznit in my book. Not that great of a singer but definitely a good songwriter who has captured the retro sound just right in a contemporary stylee.

And make them phony? Oh no, the record industry would have to change its motto and let an artist be an artist.

That's what I'm saying. The record industry is the reason for the bullshit being in the mainstream. They only want the cheapest stuff to sell so that's the only stuff they push and they get the monopolized radio stations to push it also. Everyone else doesn't get a record deal and the ones that slip through the cracks on small labels are forced underground from lack of radio play.
