the difference is, had someone, anyone tried to censor Prince during the Dirty Mind and Lovesexy tours, he and ESPECIALLY his fans would've been up in arms about it.

but i did hear he took out or abbreviated the "love is god, god is love" part of Anna Stesia during the Lovesexy shows in Japan. and you know the Prince of 2009 with his holier than thou bullshit wouldn't be doing that now.

As I recall, someone named Tipper Gore did try to censor Prince. The result was parental advisory stickers and I wasn't particularly up in arms about it. Critics and such are the cost of doing business for a celeb.

I'm not advocating censorship, neither was the poster who I was responding to. We're simply saying that if Bey "chose" to be sensitive to the culture in that part of the world, she is still capable of putting on a good show.

i agree that she could do it if she chose to, but it's her right not to. and if she doesn't want to, then she doesn't have to or have to go. but these stories pop up all the time when Western artists go to these places. there is always going to be someone bitching about how the native culture is going to be destroyed if some singer comes and puts on a show. just a few months ago, there was a story about some religious officials in, i think Poland, of all places were worried that the entire country was going to be cast into the pits of hell because Madonna was putting on a show during some obscure Catholic holiday that nobody's ever heard of. i mean, Madonna. 2009. not 1990. it happens all the time. and it's usually a small segment of people with a political or religius axe to grind hanging on to something that the rest of their country couldn't give less of a damn about anymore because they don't want to still be stuck in the dark ages.

as for the labelling, it certainly didn't do anything to censor Prince. in fact, after the labels started showing up on record sleeves, he got even nastier with his lyrics. shrug

The labelling actually had the opposite effect, not just with Prince either. My point was that when he decided to change course I didn't see it as a negative...just a different direction.

Absolutely agree that there's nothing new about this type of hoopla abroad or even here for that matter...remember dear Elvis right here in the good 'ol U S of A? Oh, the scandal! lol

Imagine if Bey decided to do a different type of show and wrote all them suckas a receipt in the process? She would have the last laugh on her critics!
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

it's an iconic outfit like madonna's cone bras and mj's glove and the image is all George Michael's. She could have at least had a different one designed but it's the same damn outfit. I watched George Michael's Too Funky video to make sure.

Again, who gives a fuck? She probably liked the top.

and further propagated people's assumptions that she doesn't have the intelligence to comprehend that she "borrows" too heavily from other's cultural footprints...it's one thing to be inspired, to take something to another level---be'weave just straight up steals....the talented hack.

Fuck the bullshit!

You don't come to people's houses and expect them to adapt the way you present yourself, its the other way around OR at least repsect it.

Agree/disagree with ANY social custom they practice till you get blue in the face, the fact of the matter is, its THEIR culture just like we have ours,,,,don't expect 'em them to conform to our ideals and move out the way just because you're an American, you're setting yourself up with this type of thinking.

Alot of Americans have this self-made arrogance about other cultures and they come to those countries with the attitude that they'll do ANYTHING just like they're in their homes, only to be put in their place and get reminded that they're "foreigners" in that side of the world lol If I seen it once, I've seen it a 1000 times.

Respect, people. Its not about censorship or any of that mess,,,,its about respecting people's homes, plain common sense if you ask me.

See, that's were you expecting too much from Bey an' nem. lol

You talk as though the totality of her art consists only of revealing costumes and vigorous rump shaking and I don't think that's the case. I'm actually giving her art more credit than you are. She can easily change the packaging of her product as Prince has done many times. For example, note the contrasts between the Dirty Mind Tour, Lovesexy and Musicology. Some might, and in fact, have argued that P compromised his art since he was performing in tailored suits and no longer utters profanity...I don't agree.

Exhibiting versatility is not a compromise...just the opposite, and Bey is capable of pulling off a great performance minus the gimmicks she has come to rely on...I've seen her do it.

Whether she sees this as an obstacle or an opportunity is her choice.

Honey, they wouldn't have known about it. That was before the advent of the internet. lol

nod

And people actually tried to censor his music(big names),,,,,he's one of the 1st reasons for the "explicit warning" invasion before NWA and the rest of them.

I'm sorry but the words "Beyoncé" and "sex party" aren't exactly a deterrent for ticket sales.
If I find out Beyoncé is having a sex party near me, insolent or other wise, I'm goin'.

You act like George Michael wore it constantly...it breifly appeared in one of his videos, hardly a "cultural footprint". Again, why do you care so much what she borrows?

Lol, you think your weird opinion on a top Beyonce wore is a valid discussion? If we were talking about something even mildly important, you might have a point.
