The HBCU situation is unique because they are in dire straits and "white" schools are gonna get their money regardless. Being an HBCU, by definition, means that if black folks don't attend they are going to become extinct. It makes total sense to me that he gives scholarships to those who support HBCUs if his goal is to keep them going. Black folks are constantly bitching about how we don't support our own and I have to give Tom credit for putting his money and time where his mouth is.

I get where you and everybody else on this position is coming from, but I still disagree with the just giving to those who soley attend HBCU scholarships, it should be for all AA's if that's his goal. Just my opinion. thumbs up!

Your point's well taken too.

Just my opinion. Like I said before, the arguement isn't that he shouldn't give to HBCU's, that I applaud him for, my issue was the scholarship thing. But I can agree to disagree thumbs up!

I guess I don't understand why you'd make a distinction in this case tho. Comparably speaking there are probably MANY more scholarships available to black folk who attend non-HBCUs vs those who do. I didn't attend an HBCU but I still appreciate what he's doing because I think there's a place for them and know how underfunded they are.

Besides, all scholarships have specific criteria and many dictate that you have to attend a specific institution, so this is just a requirement for THIS particular one. If you get a state scholarship, chances are you can't use it a private school which most HBCUs are. shrug

Umm there are not. I've stated my point of view and feel that I don't need to keep beatdeadhorse Some people understand my point of view, some don't but still take it as a point taken. So again, I'll agree to disagree.

man.....I tell ya.

First thread I ever started here on the Org. And here I was....just enjoyin the Old Schoo that Tom brings our way.

1251 hits & nearly 100 replies.

It aint about race relations (IMHO).....but about the TRACKAGE...the MUSIC.....that's why I thank Tom.

Like I said....he parties with the bands I love & I would SO love to be there.....I'd make an ass of myself the same way.

Did I say anything about Tom caring if white people knew who he is? Hell, Don Imus doesn't care if black people know who he is either. It's to both of their advantage if the race they are talking about doesn't listen to their show. It's only when enough of the other race becomes aware of their comments, that they get into trouble. If no black people were aware of Don Imus whatsoever, he would have never gotten into trouble for his statements. You know what I'm talking about, you are just twisting it around to get the focus off of Tom.

Like a said before you missed the whole point of his bit about interacial dating

bored

Don Imus is back on the radio.
