Remember Tara Kemp?

Tara Kemp was a short-lived pop/r&B girl from the early 90's. She had 2 big hits in 1991: "Hold You Tight" and "Piece of My Heart". Her 3rd single that year didn't do well, and after that she faded into obscurity. I thought she was kind of the total package-good voice (not great but good), competent dancer and pretty. I guess that wasn't enough to last though. It's a joke someone like Britney Spears has been successful for a DECADE now while other, more talented acts like Tara Kemp were lost in the shuffle so quickly.

"Hold You Tight"
(apparently some copyright thing doesn't allow this video to be on youtube, but some french dj put down the wrong name of the song, calling it "Hold You Tonight" so it was never removed from dailymotion lol )

I remember buying the cd out of a dollar store i
used to work in 16 years ago. I really only could
get into those two songs. I believe she was on
Cassandra Mills label Giant records.

Tara Kemp had a lot of potential in 1991. Her career should have lasted longer.

But it's no accident that she only had 2 hits BEFORE 1994. I've always since that the music industry was slowing going down hill from 1994 to present day 2009.

"Hold You Tight" music That was a JAM back in 1991.I remember seeing her CD at the record store and I almost bought it,just for that one song.

Before her solo album,Tara used to be in a band with Rosie Gaines. They were really close friends.Tara might have become a Prince protege,if Rosie had introduced her to the Purple One,lol.

Piece of My Heart and its remix were cool (and with better lyrics they could have been really cool). I wasn't terribly impressed by the rest of her stuff, but in retrospect, she did have kind of a classy neophyte glamourpuss image. Might have been nice to see where she'd have gone had there been more energy behind her career.

After her 1st album she did a couple of soundtrack songs. Then she had another album "Come Correct" but nothing came of it as her record label, Giant, went under. That was the last of her apparently...sad

I always say that the 90s was one of the worst times to begin a musical career. So many artists from that decade didn't go on to have lengthy careers.

I've lost the use of my heart, But I'm still alive, Still looking for the life, The endless pool on the other side, It's a wild wild west, I'm doing my best, I'm a soldier of love, Every day and night, I'm soldier of love, All the days of my life.

She's from Livermore eek

I just googled her. Apparently, she's retired, living in LA, and being an interior designer
