Recommend bands and or singers Now the catch is that it has to fall into the following genre, either trip hop, electronic(by that it can be trance, house, idm, whatever) alt rock band, soul, etc whatever genre you feel like introducing me to, i'll even accept pop! etc. Now it has to be a band that is not from the USA or england, or japan. I want to expand my music taste, i want to include bands from other countries that are quite good. thank you. [Edited 11/2/09 20:05pm]

Your post is confusing (or maybe I need more sleep). I don't know if you're up for any suggestions or not. If so, try Gal Costa and Roberto Carlos. A brazilian got me into their music. Out of the albums I received, the music from these two are the ones I remember at this moment. Their music may be too "old" for you though. I don't know. Is There A Switch For That?

I'm not picking a genre, I'm picking really good and talented artists
Paolo Nutini - Scottish Jeffery Straker - Canadian Rooney - American Mika - British Confection - Australia (a great two person band that sounds like they fell out of an R&b/Funk/Soul band circa 1982 - any Prince fan would LOVE them) Ghostland Observatory - Austin, TX Chromeo

No American or British acts, eh?
Being Latino yourself, you probably know some of these guys already, but anyway.. Latin alternative: Aterciopelados - Colombia Cafe Tacuba - Mexico Juana Molina - Argentina Icaro Azul - Puerto Rico (which I know is the U.S., but they are so underground I have to mention them) Ely Guerra - Mexico Julieta Venegas - Mexico (first two albums are the quirkiest) Federico Aubele - Argentina Love them all.

I have such affinity with Arab divas, and its a SERIOUS addiction if you can understand Arabic. Its hard to get into this type of music, but being a highly emotional person,,,I can def relate to the mood(even if I can't understand some of the stuff/accent).
Ms.Fairuz... And her longtime rival, Ms.Sabah(check the riffing in the middle, the woman has a throat in her)... Najah Al-Sageerah(Little Najah).. Fayizah Ahmad

She has such a far-away melancholy voice,,,,,and like Fairuz and Asmahan, you have the sense that they always call out for a spirit or something whenever they do their mowals(riffing) As for untraced discography, you can group the REST of Arab singers(except Fairuz & Oum Kolthum) for poor record companys and their lack of marketing strategy.

My Persian friend Tamim turned me on toa singer named Googoosh and another named Rekka. Have U heard of them. I know that Googoosh was in exile for awhile, but I know that she has performed live here in the states and she's just wonderful. If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!
