Alicia brought the braids out again  I like the video capturing the NY landmarks.... reality is some great memories are here in NYC however the state died when old 42nd street was revamped into Disney Land 9-11 speaks for itself.
Harlem is mad about gentrification, well while many were letting it waste away a plan was in place to re-zone business.Right now as it stands the middle ground is gone native New Yorkers will soon be unable to afford to live here. out of curiousity, why do you think it's cheesy??? Its just all stereotypical things thrown into a lyric. Im not a fan of these type of songs, people already are putting this shit on their shirts and ringtones and bullshit like that. I always say, stay far away from gimmicky songs like this. Some people say this song is motivational, but thats crap. Its cheesy in the way Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA" is and always was, its written to be cheesy, its a total cash in, not saying its wrong but thats what it is. So i dont wanna hear Jay saying he was inspired by NYC, because he's talking out of his ass on that. He needed a song that everyone can indentify with, just like a "Born in the USA" or a Jovi song like "Its my Life" or "Have a nice day" i mean thats called appealing to everyone, thats why it was done,and thats why its cheesy, just like Jovi or Springsteen are so is this, cant draw the line for some and not for all. But give it time and as the rents in Brooklyn are now skyrocketing u will soon see the same in the boroughs. So this song should point out how NYC is standing, but only if you are RICH is it for you. Bleh. They could've really done something original for this video but whatever.
I can see why someone might think anthem songs like this one are cheesy, but the refrain for this song soars and is memorable. The music and Alicia's vocals capture the feel of this song more than any of Jay's lyrics IMO. "Be glad for what you had baby, what you've got..." | |

If you read the lyrics you know Its not a happy-happy wrap yourself in an american flag song. Born in the USA just has a kick-ass chorus and hook that people gravitate to.
