Rihanna Embarrassed by Falling in Love with Chris Brown
November 5, 2009

Only after she had a revelation about her duty to her fans did Rihanna realize that she had to speak out about how she was a victim of ex-boyfriend Chris Brown's domestic abuse.

And now? Now she's almost ashamed of herself for having gotten into a relationship with him in the first place.

"I fell in love with this person," she tells Diane Sawyer in an interview that aired on Good Morning America Thursday. "That's embarrassing."

The singer, 21, also hinted that it may have taken "eight or nine attempts" before she could finally leave the relationship.

"It's pretty easy to go back," she says, affirming Sawyer's statement that the average woman makes seven attempts to leave an abusive partner. "You start lying to yourself. The physical wounds go away. You want this thing to go away. This is a memory you don't want to ever have again."

Now a reconciliation is all but impossible – a judge has ordered Brown, 20, not to contact Rihanna (real name: Robin Fenty) for five years as part of his sentence.

Rihanna says she was further humiliated by the public nature of the incident, which included a leaked photo of her battered face.

"I was like, here goes my little bit of privacy," she says.

But she had an epiphany about how her actions after the assault would affect thousands of impressionable girls.

"When I realized that my selfish decision for love could result in some young girl getting killed, I could not be easy with that part," she says. "I couldn't be responsible for that. Even if Chris never hit me again, who's to say their boyfriend won't? Who's to say they won't kill these girls? I didn't realize how much of an impact I had on these girls' lives until that happened."

I agree. Plus, she did it on her own terms. I don't give a fuck if she does have an album coming out. I think that she's very brave.

She did a brave thing and it appears she did learn from this terrible experience and she is aware just how many young people look up to her and follow her. Now if we could just work on his ass sigh

Wow. I watched the five min. teaser for Friday's program, and I cried. This looks to be a pretty emotional and honest interview.

I think she's very brave.

She's making it seem like she's completely innocent in this and that her hands are clean but we all know she started it...They are just too many reports about her mouth. Now she's going on Good Morning America nine months later when her album is about to hit stores. What a coinkee-dink. Why couldn't she hit the talk show circuit earlier if she's such an advocate. Look, like I said before, Chris wasn't right at all. And he's paying a huge price but don't try to kill his livelihood to gain sympathy votes or because you found out he had a jump-off. Because that's how the shit initiated.

You're hearing reports about her mouth, but if Chris hasn't verbally said that she bad mouthed him, then we can't take those "reports" as facts.

Now she's going on Good Morning America nine months later when her album is about to hit stores. What a coinkee-dink.

Chris said that he no longer wants to do interviews about the situation and he wants to move forward, so why is he doing yet another interview on the situation tomorrow on MTV, which just so happens to be the same day Rihanna's interview airs. Did I also mention that Chris' album comes out Dec 8th? What makes her "promoting" different from his?

Why couldn't she hit the talk show circuit earlier if she's such an advocate.

Being in an abusive relationship is a very embarrassing situation for any woman. She had to take time to heal herself mentally. Chris was so open because he was the one being charged for the assault. He had to do what he had to do in order to avoid jail time.

If they're in a relationship and she finds out he's cheating, what should she do?

I think she did the right thing in waiting to do interviews. It sound like she's had some counseling or something, as she sounds reflective and thoughtful. It takes time to gain perspective.

And yeah, she's selling her CD, too. As I understand it though, the CD speaks to different elements of what she's been through. I will be watching the full interview tomorrow!

And now this happens:

After Rihanna’s highly publicized tell-all interview for GMA and 20/20 (details and video), Chris Brown also wants to open up and talk about his feelings regarding the domestic abuse case on a MTV special titled “Chris Brown: The Interview” which will air on Friday (November 6).

Chris tells Sway Calloway he is trying to move on but still struggles with what happened that night when a fight between the couple turned nasty and he beat up his ex-girlfriend. Chris says, “How do you, Chris, go from point A to point B? How do you learn from your mistakes, turn it into a positive and help other people with the situation … and at the end of the day become the person that you want to be?” Blah blah blah!

In the 30-minute special, Chris will also address the ‘Larry King Live’ interview, the public’s perception of him and his new album ‘Graffiti’ [Graffiti’s album cover]. It seems like Chris is trying too hard not to stay behind but this interview coming out exactly when Rihanna decided to open up is just bad taste. Chris, you already had your chance to speak up several times, now shut up and let the victim speak! A WAR IS BREWING!!!! These interviews and things are very suspect to me with albums dropping and everything.

I agree. He had every opportunity to speak out about this, especially now that he has received his joke of a fucking sentence. It is too late now and it has cost him fans. HOB Chicago holds a thousand people or so. When he can't sell that out, there is a problem.
