Christopher Cross Okay this is why I like coming to the Org.
I never really took any interest in Christopher Cross b4 I saw a youtube post on another thread so I thought I would check out some of his work. Imagine my surprise when I saw a live clip with CC doing a guitar solo. I didn't know he had it in him. Also didn't know that Michael McDonald (another 80's lite rock/pop heavyweight) did back up vocals just because he is a nice guy and loves to sing. listen and tell me your thoughts on CC and this song. His voice hasn't held up. I don't think anyone (with the exception of Peter Frampton) crashed and burn sooo quickly. I remember when his self-titled album came out and WLS (Chicago) and soft rock/pop radio stations played that album 24/7. One album hit wonder..... but a damn good album none-the-less. ===== [Edited 10/30/09 23:26pm]

Michael McDonald did a lot of backup work back then. He had such a distinctive voice. He layered 3 part harmony as the backing vocals on Steely Dan's "Peg" as well. You've probably heard his voice more than you realize, aside from his time as part of The Doobie Brothers.
I LOVE Christopher Cross, always have. From "Laura", to his theme to the movie Arthur, to "Sailing" (which everyone from The Blenders to Nsync has covered) to "Ride Like The Wind"....he's made great music.

Just a few notes I remembered (and looked in my CD cover) about CC's first album.
Some of the players and singers on the album, his debut, were: Larry Carlton Stormie Omartian Michael Omartian Marty McCall Don Henley Michael McDonald Nicolette Larson Eric Johnson J.D. Souther CC played guitar, and wrote all the songs by himself.

It's kewl how many people have remade Sailing. In publishing money alone he is doing well. And he is an underrated guitarist. "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

"Arthur's Theme" was literally the best that he could do. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

He had so much great music. "Minstrel Gigolo" from his first album was the B-side to "Arthur's Theme". That first album is great. So is his 2nd.

I loves me some yacht rock.
Hearing this kind of music on the radio in the early 80s was so great.
