The worst thing that came of it, is everyone got on that dull ass "Unplugged" accoustical kick and stripped off all their instruments to prove that they could sing. Hell, you can prove that you can sing by performing the songs with all the instruments but just have the band play the song slightly different so that people can see you aren't lip syncing to the record. But don't strip everything off and make the songs sound like Roy Clark and Buck Owens on "Hee Haw" just to prove that you can sing. Hell, we went from a decade of excess (which is how I do everything in excess) to a decade where people were satisfied with "the simple things in life" (how dull). lol

You know, the crazy thing is that most of the performances were NOT "unplugged". Almost all of the artists that did an Unplugged used electric instruments. The Uptown Unplugged had some of the worst!

You know, if they had come out 10 years later, they would be as big as Britney Spears (fake group or not).

I think the music fit for the times. It was a bit of a newer and fresher sound. As music started to have a bigger and bigger production sound (like NKOTB or Taylor Dayne), Milli Vanilli, by comparison, almost had a very spartan feel to their music. It was catchy, because almost anyone would sing a line from "Blame It On The Rain", or "Girl You Know It's True".

Of course, listening to it now, while still fun, it feels "dated", and squarely rooted in the end of the 80's.

lowkey

i dont understand comparing them to britney spears, its not like these guys lip sinc at concerts they never sang on any of the songs in the studio, it was a complete fake. i really didnt have a problem with it, i looked at it sort of like those old tv show groups like the monkeys or partrigde family. they had some good pop songs, music is entertainment for me and they obviously entertained somebody since they sold millions of records.
